Meet the Author

Robert Munsch is the author of more than 25 books for children including The Paper Bag Princes and Stephanie's Ponytail. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and studied to be a Jesuit priest before deciding to work with children instead. He taught in a variety of nursery schools and daycare centers while he earned an MA in Early Childhood Education. In 1975, Munsch and his wife, Ann, moved to Guelph, Ontario. The Munschs have three children: Julie, Andrew, and Tyya (see them all in Something Good!).

Michael Martchenko has illustrated over 30 books for children and has exhibited his work throughout North America. He has won numerous awards for design and illustration. He lives with his wife, Patricia, in Toronto.

    Miniature Book - Nonsensical

    I wrote a review for the Boy in the Drawer, also by Robert Munsch. Maybe I just do not like his style of writing. To me this book was silly, but was not funny. It does not state in the description that this book is only 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches big. The first graders I was purchasing the books for did not want the "small book"; they wanted the "big books" (regular sized paperbacks). This is a story about a girl who finds a baby in a hole and tries to give it away to different people, but nobody wants it. She ends up trading the baby to a truckdriver. He takes the baby and she takes the truck. I did like his story called Something Good. It is silly, funny and has a good lesson.

    Robert Munsch is the author of a number of children books that I am familiar with. My favourite two titles of this author are probably ¿The Paper Bag Princes¿ and ¿Stephanie's Ponytail¿. I call ¿Murmel, Murmel, Murmel¿ a mystery novel for children. Very gripping. It will keep your child interested until the end. Another author of great children¿s books that I highly recommend is Boszenna Nowiki with her series of ¿Why Some Cats are Rascals¿
