Music from "The Elder"

A must have

KISS fan or not this album is a must have. Clearly not a KISS album. I put it this way, Gene, Eric, Ace and Paul at their best. Make it part of your collection. No sure why Ace hated it so much, listen to Fractured Mirror from his solo albums.

El mejor experimento musical de KISS

Encontré a KISS por casualidad hace 26-27 años, en México sonaba mucho Dynasty, y simplemente, ¡me encantaron! El disco Dynasty fue mi iniciación y me lo acabé, actualmente se escucha muy poco, es acetato. Cuando escuché Music From The Elder me pareció extraño pero al mismo tiempo totalmente una obra maestra. Mi corte favorito es Odyssey, que realmente me hace viajar por las estrellas y galaxias en sólo 5:49 minutos... es extremadamente un platillo de primera para el buen gusto y el oído musical. Ojalá alguna vez KISS se atrevan a realizar algo semejante.

IMHO the best KISS album

It's all about opinions here, but I think this album is the best one by KISS because of the simple fact that it is such a departure from the usual types of music that KISS put together. Over the years, they went through line-up changes and image make-overs that would turn the stomach of any normal band. They made it through all of those times, and though this album was not commercially successful, if you allow yourself the chance to get into the storyline and try something different, it really does offer entertainment value on top of variety.

This Album is awesome!!!!

Sure, The Elder isn't true Kiss style, but it is an awesome album. I, in my opinion, think it's a work of musical art. I love the third track on the album, Odyssey, I like the sound and lyrics put into this album.

The Elder... Listen to the album not expecting KISS!!!

I am 27 years old and have been a die-hard KISS fan since I was about 8 years old and when I first heard ''Music From The Elder'', I was disgusted, put it on the shelf and didn't listen to it again for years. When I did decide to give it another chance, my opinion of the album changed. I have become a huge fan of Queensryche and other progressive rock bands and I really enjoy listening to a concept album with a good concept. ''Music From The Elder'' is not a very good KISS album, but it is a great rock concept album... if you can get past the idea that it's not KISS!!!

''Tommy'', make room

Too many fans have button-holed Kiss as a party band, thereby missing their depth and potential. I love this album. ''The Elder'' is a great concept album that ranks with ''Tommy''( The Who), ''The Wall'' (Pink Floyd), ''Welcome to MY Nightmare'' (Alice Cooper), and ''I Robot'' (Allen Parsons Project). Approach this album with no expectations of previous Kiss albums and you will be enthralled!

almost, but not quite

Having come off of a spectacular success with Pink Floyds' ''The Wall'' and also having produced KISS' breakthrough album ''Destroyer'', Bob Ezrin and band thought that with this album, lightning could once again be caught in a bottle. Alas, they let it get away from them, the album, while it does have its moments, especially the hard- charging Ace Frehley tune, ''Dark Light''; on the whole, it seems unfocused and meandering, the orchestral arrangements sound maudlin and turgid, and the Gene Simmons-sung hit(sic) single, ''A World Without Heroes'', comes off as embarrassingly vapid,such a shame, for the late Eric Carr does a credible job on this, his first recording with the band. Though this is not a total stinker by any means, the group fell flat on their faces trying to mate ''The Wall'' with ''Tommy''. It is little wonder, then, that their next album ''Creatures of the Night'' had a much heavier sound to it.

The absolute worst Kiss album, ever!

What can I say? This is an album Kiss had no business doing! The only good thing about this was the lesson they learned, & ''Creatures of the night'' followed this mess.

Try it! I think you will be surprised!!

Music from the Elder, I think, is the kind of experiement that must be made sometimes by artists. Kiss is a rock band--a very good pure rock n roll band. While this album cannot be compared with Destroyer or Creatures of the night in terms of rock intensity, it is still an impressive piece of work. This is a concept album in the truest sense. Kiss set out to tell a story with a wide range of music. You get instrumentals, rock pieces, and some very good lyrics. All together, the album sounds great and very tight. If you are the kind of person that likes to take a chance, then I highly recommend this album. If you give it a chance, chances are you will enjoy it. Thanks!

Not classic Kiss but a masterful departure

There doesn't seem to be any middle ground of opinion on this album. People either love it or hate it (kind of like reaction to the band itself). I happen to be in the ''love it'' camp. For those new to the Kiss experience, be forewarned: this is not a typical Kiss album! However, I rank it among the 8 essential Kiss albums (the other 7 being the first 6 studio albums and the Ace solo project). While offputting to many Kiss fans, the theatrical fantasy of ''The Elder's'' theme, musical tone and lyrics is a perfect match for the mythic and god-like image of these supreme avatars of rock. If you consider the famous artistic renderings on the covers of ''Destroyer'' and ''Love Gun'', you will see that this album sounds exactly the way the band looks- dramatic, mysterious and foreboding. Anyone with a meaningful grasp of the essence of the Kiss fantasy will recognize how beautifully this album captures their ethereal spirit. This is not the music of an upstart band of punks from New York City; This is the strange music of the elder gods from regions unknown who inspired the modern image. It is the music not of the 70s, but of another time and another place...once upon not yet...long ago someday. ''The Elder'' demonstrates what these demigods have always been from the beginning of knowledge and will always be in the minds of their ''followers''. These are not just 4 guys in clown makeup playing loud rock music, but elemental forces of nature with powers beyond human understanding. If you're looking for another ''Rock and Roll Over'', you will be sorely disappointed. But if you are ready to hear something different- very different- from the band's usual offerings, give ''The Elder'' a fair chance. Listen with an open mind and explore the true potential of these gothic kings from another realm.

ITS A PRETTY BORING ALBUM OF KISS!!!

DONT!!get this album its plain boring the album is like hearing symphony kiss.
