Got this as a gift over the holidays. Amazing how many musicians & recipes they got into this book! Given the quality (& weight!) of this book, I figured it would be a show book for my coffee table. Especially since I'm not much of a cook (Ok, I can boil water!) but once I tried a few of these recipes...it only encourages you to try more! It helps give a better understanding (bio, photos, show date & favorite charity) of over a hundred musicians that have performed on Austin City Limits over the years. So, you can assemble your own band of recipes here and knock guests socks off! The best idea I have used was to organize a musical potluck, where guests each made a different recipe from the book, and we enjoyed while watching an Austin City Limits show...what a blast!....the only thing better would have been the artist coming over to prepare & play in person! So I found the recipes in this book are quite straightforward and easy to prepare. Of course the secret is putting on the performers music while you are preparing. So, whether its Willie Nelson's Tequila Mango Salsa, Guster's Artichoke Spinach Dip, Carrie Rodriguez's Roasted Tomato & Bean Soup, Thievery Corp's Live Forever Shake, Clay Walkers To Die For Chicken, Jason Mraz's Moms Meatloaf, Neville Brother's Gumbo, Buddy Guy's Red Beans & Rice, My Morning Jacket's Quinoa Eggs w/Cheese Please, Dolly Parton's Mama Deans Chili & Spaghetti, Joss Stone's Veggie Lasagna, Neko Case's Houndstooth Chocolate Chip Cookies, Shawn Colvin's Swedish Pancakes all the way to BB Kings German Chocolate Cake your hungry fans will be shouting for more! The author's, Glenda Facemire, inclusion of the musician's favorite charity and website in the book...was a stroke of genius to bring awareness to how generous these musicians are! They are a superb collection of recipes & musical genre's....so, what are you waiting for?....get this & start cookin!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. This is a book that is jam-packed with easy to make recipes throughout the whole spectrum. I like the fact that there are interesting tidbits from contributers, and what charities they give to. I like that I can make a variety of recipes from some of my favorite stars. There are a lot of easy to make, great recipes-from party appetizers, stews, chilis, main entrees, sides, sauces, and jams. I am going to try The Allman Brothers Band recipe for "Big House" Corn Casserole for Thanksgiving. They even have healthy smoothie recipe from Thievery Corporation. I plan to gift this beautiful cookbook to friends. Beautiful photography, interesting stories of the artists, and most of all, easy to make recipes.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I think the author and photographer have come up with a winning recipe here (if you'd kindly forgive the irresistible pun) to combine great photos of the artists alongside their own recipes for their favorite dishes.
The artists represented in this book come from a wide range of genres and various eras of musical history are also covered here. Recent artists such as Jason Mraz can be found alongside relatively unknown (so far) musicians (Ryan Bingham, Tift Merritt) and more recognizable names (Loretta Lynn, Dr. John, BB King, Willie Nelson, Joan Baez) are all here in this really well-done (sorry, another pun) book of great recipes.
Each artist is one who has performed on Public TV's great show "Austin City Limits" and each gets to name a favorite charity as well. The charity for each artist is shown on the recipe page or with the artist photo, and again in a list in the back of the book. Not only are there great recipes in this book, there are some artists who deserve increased exposure to a wider audience, and this book should be an excellent vehicle for these great musicians to gain some new fans.

I purchased this cookbook at Barnes & Noble in 2009 and ever since I have referred to it too many times to count! The recipes are delicious and the blend of music and amazing food can't be beat. It is beautifully put together and is always set out in my kitchen for people to see. Everyone loves the photos of all the musicians and the fact that the book is also spreading awareness of tons of charitable organizations. Music in the Kitchen is the perfect cookbook for music lovers!
