High-interest, low vocabulary, but with a message all readers need to learn, this title addresses the messages that the music industry sends with marketing, lyrics, product placement, and celebrity hype. Pages are attractively laid out with clarity of text, easy to use chapters, glossary, bibliography, index, and time line. Additional information about websites and the author round out the volume. Questions asked by the author of the reader are those college age students in information literacy questions ask as they evaluate materials: Who made the message and why? Who is the message for? How might others view the message differently What is left out of the message? How does the message get and keep my attention? Photos of pop stars, explanation of the jobs of various people within the media industry, and a discussion of values of music make for interesting reading.
