Overview

In an effort to break out of the ethno-sampladelica prison, the duo of Michel Sanchez and Eric Mouquet took the Deep Forest show on the road, recording source material in India, Japan, and elsewhere, then convening in the studio with a live band. While the changes to the band's multi-culti blend of dance beats and voices are subtle, they are significant. It's evident from the guitar roar of the opener, "India," that this version of Deep Forest has been honed by the demands of live performance. The songs are the most dynamic that Sanchez and Mouquet have ever put to disc, with explosive breaks driven by guitar, percussion, or turntable effects. Vocalist Beverly Jo Scott, who deploys house-styled vocals rich with gospel-flavored ad libs, does her best with the image-heavy lyrics, but that's not really the point here. Listeners will pay more attention to the heavy rhythms of songs such as "Beauty in Your Eyes," which combines a Daft Punk style of French-tronica with the Foresters' trademark Pygmy polyphony (now relegated to keyboard lines, it should be mentioned). The rock-heavy arrangements and more standardized songs here may dispel some of the magic of Deep Forest, who traded on lounge-friendly moods and grooves before the Buddha Bar served its first cosmopolitan. But there's no doubt that this new incarnation will kill on the touring circuit, where Sanchez, Mouquet, and company will get the opportunity to flex their muscles.

This is the best album I´ve heard in years. It´s beatifull, magic, fresh, brilliant, great sound , great songs and very nice arranged with live drums/programming. Drummer David Fall who plays the entire album makes it groove so delicate and nice. This is the best from Deep Forest ever! An album for your soul! Buy it!
