Publishers Weekly
In the plucky sheep's third comic-strip-style outing, Mutton Soup: More Adventures of Johnny Mutton by James Proimos, Johnny tries to learn some table manners, attempts a world record in sitting and overcomes a personal paranoia ("Old people are scary! Old people are scary!"). The book's white and red jacket even resembles the label from a popular brand of soup. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

Gr 2-4-Johnny Mutton returns with five more zany adventures. The stories are upbeat and nonchalantly wise, and the brightly colored comic strips have just the right look for the sheep's escapades. In one story, Johnny learns what a good friend Gloria Crust is for not insisting that they keep riding the roller coaster when he turns green. In another, his mother decides that his table manners are impossible and sends him off to Ms. Bottoms, a "manners expert." He learns how to hold a teacup and to place his napkin in his lap, and she picks up quite a lot from him about having some fun-she and her poodle dine that night with their napkins on their heads. Those who have enjoyed Johnny's other antics will welcome this book.-Carol Schene, Taunton Public Schools, MA Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
Kirkus Reviews
This sheep-in-everyboy's-clothing returns for a third set of edifying neighborhood encounters: with archrival Mandy Dinkus in a closet (it's complicated); manners coach Ms. Bottoms; a roller coaster; and the really old, but surprisingly un-scary Stagglemyers. As before, Johnny emerges from each meeting a little wiser-discovering, for instance, that he prefers the Duckie-Go-Round to the roller coaster, and later actually working with Mandy to head off a possible romantic connection between their respective single parents. Separated by recipes-of sorts: "Mutton soup is 100% melted vanilla ice cream with a cherry on top"-Proimos tells each tale in minimally detailed, brightly colored cartoon panels, with dialogue floating in balloons. Think Ricky Ricotta, without the violence. (Easy reader. 6-8)
