Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Reminiscent of a love song from a parent to a child, this concise text highlights some of the experiences of childhood. The wonders of the big blue sky, the green grass, and a perfect flower are followed by the sweetness of a strawberry, the tickle of rain on your face and the warmth of the sun. Additional sensory experiences include the strength of a cry, the brightness of a smile, and the smell of a spring day. The closing assures the child that the adult wants to show him or her everything, especially love. Large, luminescent illustrations fill the pages. Each painting features different children and adults. They are boys, girls, men, and women from a variety of nationalities and cultures. A quiet book for a parent to share with a child. 2004, Blue Sky Press/Scholastic, Ages 3 to 6.

School Library Journal
PreS-K-One of the first pictures in this visually arresting offering shows a briefcase full of papers left on the ground; one of the pages has been made into a paper airplane that a girl launches into a dazzling blue sky. Her father stands still and watches over her, taking vicarious pleasure in her delight. In fact, this book is about adults who want their children to experience the beauty and variety of the world in which they live. Each picture shows a different youngster, a different adult, a different situation, from tasting strawberries to crushing an autumn leaf to saying hello to a caterpillar. Instead of a "you're wonderful!" book, this is an "it's wonderful!" book, a refreshing shift of perspective. Mahurin uses amazing colors in his eye-catching illustrations, the brightest of yellows and the most vivid greens. Although the art is somewhat abstract, the warm colors reflect the intimate interaction between each child and adult. Like many of Desimini's titles, this volume lends itself to imaginative contemplation in its sense of joy and wonder. A very personal, beautiful book.-Lauralyn Persson, Wilmette Public Library, IL Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
