Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
"Tadpoles" is the name given to this series of early readers which kids can read on their own or with adult assistance. Tips are provided to help enrich the reading experience and make it fun. The fifth point listed is one often overlooked—"Give praise! Children learn best in a positive environment." In each title of the series, on the verso of the title page, there is a photograph or drawing of the author and illustrator with a comment from each. The transition from crib or other small bed may be traumatic for some, but not this young boy. He is thrilled to have a new bed and invites his siblings in to have some fun and join him in testing out his new big bed—brother, sister, cat, dog—and it is a wonder the bed does not give way. A loud creek sends them all scurrying away and our protagonist declares that "this bed is just for me and Ted." The illustrations have a cartoon quality and are very busy. Watch for the little mouse who seems to be doing his best to avoid all the mayhem. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
