Overview

With an action-packed plot reminiscent of Janet Evanovich and a sense of humor that makes the love scenes unforgettable, Christina Harlin is a debut author sure to be a hit. Hilarious romantic suspense, this book is the first in a series featuring a legal secretary who seems to solve mysteries faster than her detective boyfriend, and her boss, an obsessive-compulsive but very lovable lawyer.

In the insular world of a fusty law office in Kansas City, Carol Frank is the perfect secretary to obsessive-compulsive law partner Bill Nestor.

But when she discovers that nine of his clients (all wealthy widows) have committed suicide and the police are beginning to get suspicious, Carol sets out to find the truth. In the process she falls for a dishy Kansas City police detective investigating the case and nearly gets buried, literally, by paperwork.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Paralegal Harlin pulls out all the stops in this witty, catty and romantic mystery debut. Carol Frank, a legal secretary who merrily riffs on the petty personalities and turf wars in her Kansas City law firm, adores her kindly, obsessive-compulsive boss, Bill Nestor. Then sexy police detective Gus Haglund starts inquiring about Adrienne Maxwell, a widow whose suicide may have been murder. Maxwell wasn't the first woman to kill herself after having Bill draft her will, and his exhaustive case notes include suspiciously detailed data about security systems. Carol's investigation turns up further evidence implicating Bill, but how can she betray the best boss she's ever worked for, even to a romantic cop who knows numerous uses for handcuffs? Harlin's memorable, entertaining characters populate a well-crafted mystery that keeps readers guessing to the end. (Apr.)

Easy read. Anyone who understands office politics should get a laugh.

Fun to read. Harlin has written more books with the Carol Frank character. "My Boss is a Dead Man" and "My Boss is a Wanted Woman". Would like to see them on nook books. I would purchase these if available.

This book was hilarious! I purchased it on the weight of the title alone and was not disappointed. The characters were great, the plot kept reading, and the surprise ending was well worth the wait. A must read!!

A Must Read For Anyone Who has ever worked in an office and likes laughter mixed with their mystery!
I couldn't stop reading this once I started until finally early the next morning (oh about 5ish) I decided I should get some sleep before I had to wake up! Very funny and often laugh out loud - especially if you have ever worked in an office and recognized the truth in her words. I loved the characters, very fleshed out - could see them in my head. And I loved her boss and how kindly she treated him - the author seems very insightful of personalities and made Carol very accepting of people's foibles. The mystery was well done, the writing first class. I have already purchased the next in the series...I will try and start it early on a weekend morning so I don't have to worry about sleep patterns interfering :)
