When it's only my ba and me....

We celebrate every day, And also each night . . .
My kiss says, “I love you.”

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Each page of this gentle book features a different child and father spending time together throughout the seasons: "When it's only my dad and me... we rake the leaves high." Panels fold out twice to reveal more activities (like jumping in said leaves). Throughout, readers learn other words for "dad": "When it's only my aba and me... we take morning hikes" (a note reads, "Aba means 'dad' in Hebrew"). The multicultural component should broaden the book's appeal. My Mom and Me is also available. Ages 4-6. (Apr.)

Children's Literature - Beverley Fahey
A sturdy board book offers a glimpse into the daily activity of four dads and their children throughout the four seasons. Tri-fold pages open to reveal an extended scene of a father and daughter raking leaves in fall, a father and son playing on the ice in winter, a dad and daughter hiking through a meadow in spring, and a dad and his son frolicking on the beach in summer. Each father and child is of a different ethnic background, from the American Dad, the Spanish Papi, and the Hebrew Aba to the Mandarin Babi although from the illustration it is clear all these families live in America. The text is minimal allowing the focus to be on the children and their relationship to their fathers. This would be a perfect share for Father's Day or for use in a multi-lingual preschool or primary classroom Reviewer: Beverley Fahey
