Overview

The title of the Canadian neo-punkers' major-label debut is no doubt a biting twist on the Who, and the defiantly cool cover art lets us know that the band -- an overnight sensation that took seven years to be discovered by Green Day producer Rob Cavallo, who helms here -- isn't interested in pleasantries or reverence. Their lyrics, sung/screamed by the raspy and irrepressible Matt Hughes, are downright confessional, and are worth trying to hear over the fast moving guitars and raging drums of Tim Thomson. "Ready to Roll" is an ultra hip tune about an ultra-uncool activity -- playing Dungeons and Dragons and indulging in odd fantasies. "Praise the Day" recalls Hughes' grade school embarrassment of looking like a girl with his bad haircut. And "Butterball" is a quasi-love song about fattening up a girlfriend so no one else will look her way. It's fun, loud, total party music that will appeal to former nerds who make good with cool music -- and those who just enjoy well produced guitar-driven post-punk. [My Degeneration was also released with bonus tracks.]

Flashlight Brown is a twist of old school Blink with a pinch of today's popular punk bands. If you like Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Breaking Benjamin, and Blink 182, you'll like Flashlight Brown... so buy yourself a copy, one for Uncle Joe, one for your best bud, Nana, and the dog... enjoy...

I first heard Flashlight Brown at an All American Rejects concert. To be honest I was only there to see AAR and I wasn't expecting to like the opening acts but I was pleasantly surprised. Flashlight Brown put on an awesome performance and their CD is even better. It is one of the best punk rock CDs that I've heard in a long time, lead singer Fil Bucchino is right up there with Billy Joe from Greenday. And with lyrics like "I saw Gullage at the show last night/She said we played her favorite song/Some fat kid told me we saved his life/What the hell is going on/But tonight would have gone way smoother if we had more beer" what's not to like?

This is a great album. It's got a sweet punk sound mixed with a little ska. It's fast-paced and energetic, and an all-around great album. My favorite songs were "Ready To Roll" and "Looking Away." Buy it.

Flashlight Brown's debut CD is to say the least amazing. The lyrics are creative and playful and are paired along with catchy melodies. A winning combination for success. Lead singer and guitarist Matt Hughes unique vocal stylings make listening to this album a memorable experience that you won't soon forget. My favorite songs on this record have to be "ready to roll" and "Patricia." I enjoy the tone of these songs the most and like the playful nature of their lyrics. "My Degeneration" is on heavy rotation in my CD player and is definitely deserving of radio airplay.

This is one of the best new punk cds I have heard in a long time. They are not really a new band though, they are a Canadian punk/ska band orginally called Flashlight. The songs don't sound all the same, which is hard to find in a lot punk bands. If you like punk at all, then this album is for you. Great album all the way around.

If you are a fan of punk music you will love this cd. The sound it different....but in a good way. The songs are short sweet and to the point. Plus some of the songs are extremely funny!! Enjoy!

This is a kickin album. Complete with punchy riffs, fast drums, talented bass, and melodical lyrics, My Degeneration is a blast to listen to. Perfect for summer drives with your friends or hanging and rocking out. The best tracks are 'I'll Only Make You Cry' and 'Woah Man'. Pick this cheaply priced but well-worthy album up NOW!!!

My Degeneration is one of the best CDs that I have ever bought. It is full of songs that make you want to get up, sing along, and rock out. Currently, my favorite song on the CD is "I'll Only Make You Cry." Flashlight Brown have been around for a while so don't think they are a band just going along with the "punk music" trend. They definately are worth listening to. I highly recommend buying My Degeneration- you won't regret it!

This CD is definately one of the most honest, in your face albums I've ever heard. Once you play the CD once you can't help but get addicted to the sweet guitar riffs and awesome lyrics. This CD is a MUST BUY!!

This album rocks!!! Canadian punk guys consistently drop great records. This album is a breath of fresh air. If you are a fan of Sum 41, Blink 182, or Good Charlotte, you will definitely love this album.

This was a really good Cd. The words wre very poetic, and the songs were true to life. The music is also great. Its tyhe first band of their kind ive heard of in a while that doesnt have all their sounds sounding exactly the same.

Rock n roll and Patrica are gonna be huge hits, just wait and see. This CD is one of my favorite. Don't hesitate to buy. You won't be disappointed.

For every five bands that make it big overnight, there is that one band who has been consistently on track for many years. Touring, making great music, answering fans' questions, constantly self-promoting. The band this time is Flashlight Brown, together since 1996 and constantly improving. The band's latest effort, and first wide-release album, is a collection of songs, some new and some old, that perfectly conveys the Flashlight Brown ideals of fun, friends and laughing at oneself. Best songs on the album are "Butterball" and "Praise The Day" (formerly entitled "Don't Look Much Like A Girl"). The album is cheap and buyers will definitely get their money's worth. The only problem with "My Degeneration" is that it runs on the short side. Have no fears, Flashlight Brown is here to stay.

Flashlight Brown has grown as a band in the years they have been together. This is evident in their new renditions of the songs "Lose the Shades," and "Butterball." I thought the old versions were good, but let me tell you, these are even better. Other favourites of the disk are "Go and Die" (a song with a catchy beat and awesomly fun lyrics, as with all the songs), "Praise the Day," "Today," (this is probably one of the best on the CD), and the fantastic intro to the CD, "Ready to Roll." Anyone who enjoys a punk band, but is ready for some different sounds, and a unique sound to each song should Definantly get this CD!!

It's a rarity for me to listen to an entire CD without skipping at least one song. You know what I'm talking about. There's always those couple of songs that just irritate the hell out of you. This is not the case with Flashlight Brown's debut album, My Degeneration. Each and every song on this album is a different from the next. The variety displayed on this album shows what the band has learned on the road touring. "Ready to Roll", "Patricia", and "Whoa Man" are bound to stick in your head for ages. Luckily, they're the type of songs that you don't mind sticking around for a few days.

Alright... i had no idea who they were until i went to an All- American Rejects show. they have a sound completely theres... and the singers voice is amazing... both singers... Matt is painfully honest and Fil reminds me of old skool punk rock music. each song has something to hook you and its definitely one of the top 5 best albums in the past couple of years

if you like punk rock (think social distortion, ramones, good charlotte and sum 41 wrapped together), you'll love these guys...i have my favorites...whoa man, lose the shades, butterball, go and die...but the rest of the songs continue to grow on me...good stuff!

My Degeneration is a great choice for someone who doesn't own any Flashlight Brown cds. It includes some of their best and most popular songs from their previous cds (never released in the USA) as well as some new ones. There's plenty of variety on this cd. All of Flashlight's music is varied and that's one of the main reasons I love listening to them. I actually get my money's worth and not just one song played over and over again 15 times like a lot of other cds. My Degeneration has definately been a worthwhile addition to my collection of Flashlight cds. For people who are already fans of the Flashlight, I'll say that I love the rendition of "Go and Die" aka "July" on this cd. Also, none of the songs have changed much, so no need to worry that you'll end up with something that doesn't even sound like the band you've grown to love. One last thing, wait on reading the lyrics because when you do read them and find out what they're really singing, chances are you'll love the songs even more. You might even laugh your pants off for some of them. :) At least that's my experience.

Flashlight Brown's new CD, My Degeneration, is without a doubt one of my favourite CDs. Flashlight Brown has their own unique sound that you can't help but rock out to. If you like the All American Rejects, then you will definately like these guys! "Lose The Shades" is my favourite song, but it's hard to pick just one!

Simply amazing! Flashlight brown is by far one of the best bands I have ever heard! They almost remind me of The Ataris meets The Distillers. Very Cool! The best songs are "A Freak" "Patricia" and "I'll only make you cry" Deffinitly a must buy!
