Editorial Reviews

LongandShortReviews - Snapdragon forLASR
The historic setting is enthralling – to say nothing of the man! Matthews’ really nails this, with more than description; conversation and the mores of the day all contribute to the setting. When April’s attentive gentleman Lawrence, starts to select from the menu for her, you’ll have déjà vu yourself...Treat yourself to a fast and very original read!
CoffeeTimeRomance - Hollie Reviewer
April and her friends are a happy and loyal group, it is a pleasure to see people as close as these. I enjoyed the mixture of an unusual story line and the strength of her characters. Ms. Matthews has written a new and amazing story that takes historical romance into a new area.
BetweenTheLines - Vasiliki Scurfield
Great natural dialogue helps to give the reader a real feel for the people and events.
Ms Matthews gives us two love stories, one through flashbacks from the 1920s and the other in the present. She does this successfully and keeps the reader guessing as to the outcomes of both and how they impact April’s decisions.
... This is an original, memorable read.
ClassicRomanceRevival - Lindsay Townsend
I was gripped from the start...intriguing opening and immediate evocation of place. In this original historical-romance-time-slip, the narrator, April, is used to being classed as a bimbo, but she is far from that. April is a warm-hearted, sympathetic, scatty (she keeps forgetting her umbrella in rainy modern-day Seattle) and charming young woman whom I found very appealing..Déjà Vu Lover by Phoebe Matthews is a tender yet tough story, full of romantic twists and turns...

Phoebe Matthews' My Deja Vu Lover grabbed me right from the star

Phoebe Matthews' My Deja Vu Lover grabbed me right from the start and kept me turning the pages until I reached the end of this intriguing tale of love, friendship and psychological suspense.

April's nightmare begins when she enters into a fugue state in which she sees a nasty car accident. The crash appears to be fatal for herself and her best friends, and worst of all, she causes it. But April doesn't drive -- she's always been afraid to learn. And there's one person involved in the accident whom she doesn't recognize. Until she meets him...and falls for him hard.

When she continues to have visions of living decades in the past, during Hollywood's silent film period, April begins to wonder if she and her friends are reliving a tragic set of circumstances. Or is she simply going nuts? What if what happened before happens again?

Smart, witty dialogue combines with memorable characters to create a delightful blend of romance, suspense, and self-discovery. I also loved the historical detail about the early days of Hollywood. Highly recommended!

¿The first time I saw the accident was on Tuesday afternoon.¿

“The first time I saw the accident was on Tuesday afternoon.”

So begins MY DEJA VU LOVER, a fascinating blend of paranormal, psychological suspense, and romance. This story drew me in slowly as hints of darkness provided an enticing foil for the innocent spirit of the heroine, April, and her three closest friends.

Were April’s visions of a woman named Silver and a mysterious man named Lawrence buried memories, or the kind of seductive delusion that led to madness? When April’s present-day life began to echo her waking dreams of Silver and Lawrence, my suspense grew to page-turning compulsion.

In MY DEJA VU LOVER, Phoebe Matthews has created a fascinating multifaceted story in which a hint of Maeve Binchy’s gentleness pulses with a touch of the psychologically dark obsession of a Barbara Vine novel.

All that, and a great ending! I’m thrilled to have discovered Phoebe Matthews, and I’ll definitely be reading more of this talented author.

Unique, romantic, keeps you guessing -

Right along with April who doesn't know why her world is turning upside down. She has visions of Hollywood in the time before talkies and is overwhelmed by memories of a passionate love affair. And then she meets her lover's double in present day Seattle and all the problems repeat, moving her toward disaster. This is a great romance and a warm love story, with suspense right up to the last page.
