Overview

One day, lonely cubicle dweller and otherwise bored New York City transplant Hannah Hart decided to make a fake cooking show for a friend back home in California. She opened her laptop, pulled out some bread and cheese, and then, as one does, started drinking. The video was called "Butter Yo Sh*t" and online sensation My Drunk Kitchen was born.

My Drunk Kitchen (the book!) includes recipes, stories, color photographs, and tips and tricks to inspire your own adventures in tipsy cooking. Hannah offers cocktail recommendations, culinary advice (like, remember to turn off the oven when you go to bed), and shares never-before-seen recipes such as:

  • The Hartwich (Knowledge is ingenuity! Learn from the past!)
  • Can Bake (Inventing things is hard! You don't have to start from scratch!)
  • Latke Shotkes (Plan ahead to avoid a night of dread!)
  • Tiny Sandwiches (Size doesn't matter! Aim to satisfy.)
  • Saltine Nachos (It's not about resources! It's about being resourceful.)

In the end, My Drunk Kitchen may not be your go-to guide for your next dinner party . . . but it will make you laugh and drink . . . I mean think . . . about life.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Hannah Hart, according to her Wikipedia entry, is "best known for starring in My Drunk Kitchen, a weekly series on YouTube in which she cooks something while intoxicated." Apparently, that staggeringly simple recipe for success has won widespread favor: Since 2011, her videos have amassed over 40 million views and her Twitter feed has attracted more than 200,000 followers. My Drunk Kitchen, the book, offers a welcome new round of tipsy cooking tips, stories, recipes, drink suggestions, drawings, confessions, and photos. And remember: No matter how happy you have been celebrating the arrival of this book, don't forget to turn the oven off before you go to bed.

Neil Gaiman
“I defy anyone to read this surprisingly useful book and not come away from it madly in love with Harto, hoping against hope that one day she will turn up, with alcohol and honesty and a heaped pile of humor, in your kitchen too.”
Chris Hardwick
“Hannah Hart is one of the smartest, funniest humans I know. She has done more than write a book-she has created a delightful hang-out in literary form. This book is my only friend now.”
author of Grace's Guide and creator and star of YouTube's It's Grace
“Hannah’s writing is like cold, leftover fried rice for breakfast: unusual, cultural, and overall . . . really f-ing good.”
Hank Green
“Maybe cooking isn’t about creating culinarily perfect flavor art—maybe cooking is just part of living a life that you enjoy and that makes the world suck less. I’m not saying Hannah’s food isn’t good, but her ideas are butter...ahem...better.”
Grace Helbig
“Hannah’s writing is like cold, leftover fried rice for breakfast: unusual, cultural, and overall . . . really f-ing good.”

I wasn't sure what to expect when buying this book. I am a fan of My Drunk Kitchen/Hannah Hart so I wanted to support her by purchasing it and boy am I glad that I did! This was less of a cookbook and more of an extension of Hannah's personality. She writes in the same manner that she speaks: intelligently and full of puns, haha. The quotes, recipes, and stories were lovely. I was thrown by how funny yet heart warming the book turned out to be. I would recommend this book to anyone (I may even give it as a gift in the future). All I know is that if you don't love Hannah Hart before reading this you definitely will after.

This book will make you laugh out loud and sometimes face palm from all of the puns, but it's such an enjoyable read. It doesn't matter if you've watched her YouTube videos or not, you'll love this book solely from how inspiring it is and you'll walk away with some new recipes to try out (although really think about which ones seem like a good idea first!).

This is a wonderful book!! As a huge fan of Hannah Hart, I would gladly buy any creative content she produces, but I honestly think this book is great even if you've never heard of the author (or watched her on Youtube).
This cookbook is a parody self-help book, with life lessons delivered through the lens of recipes. A handful of the recipes I can only assume were metaphorical and not meant for implementation. Some look absolutely delicious. Most are a delightful blend of  analogy and creative food ideas.
There are lots of beautiful pictures and puns! Whether the puns are genius or cringe-worthy is a matter of perspective I think. Buy the book and judge for yourself!
