Reviewers Choice Awards, The Paranormal Romance Guild. She adds a dash of scifi, a flourish of fantasy, enough humor to make you laugh out loud, and, occasionally, enough steam to make you squirm in your chair. Her heroines are independent femmes with flaws and minds of their own whether they are aliens, witches, demonologists, werewolves, hybrids, psychics, or past life therapists. Her heroes are hot and hunky, but they also have brains, character, and good manners... usually. The rich characterizations come from being a lifelong student of behavior, casually, and a serious student of behavior academically. She also studied comparative religion, myths, and Dark Ages history. Victoria lives in The Woodlands, Texas with her husband and a very smart, mostly black German Shepherd dog.

I admit to author bias. I wrote it and I like it a lot. So much to that I have read it several times SINCE it was published. This is the first book of a series that is also a serial. In other words, while My Familiar Stranger can be read as a stand alone novel, every subsequent volume will build on characters and situations presented here. Whenever you encounter a twist or turn in the reading, know that the same thing took place with the writing. I began the writing with one book in mind and ended up with something else because the headstrong characters took on life, voice, and demands of their own. Hope you enjoy it.

This is a must read! The writing and editing are very well done, thank goodness! The character build up is great. It is a long book at about 700 pages but I didn't want to put it down! My Familiar Stranger is officially on my "tell everybody" list! I cannot wait to read more about these characters!! Keep up the great work Victoria!! Thank you!

The author did an outstanding job with her tale! The book engaged me from the first page and didn't let me go until the last page. The storyline was a very good one and subsequently I wanted to see the main character suceed with her wishes. I got that and more. The love interest was icing on the proverbial cake. It was a very special love story wrapped into an ever bigger story. The ending gave me even more in satisfaction. I would highly recommend this book to everyone who's searching for the special story to read.

Imagine sitting in a meeting of vampire/supernatural hunters, at a facility very few people have any idea exists, debriefing because of the loss of a team member. Now imagine having a bloody mess land at your feet out of thin air, so badly damaged you can't tell what it is, even when it opens its eyes and holds its hand out to you seeking help. . This book has a woman from a parallel dimension land in the midst of the famous vampire hunters, The Order of the Black Swans, Company B, or Bad Company, as they have come to be called due to their reputation for getting the job done. Her trip through the dimensions left her barely alive, looking like she took a trip through a meat grinder. She faced certain death had she not been sent through, as the castle she grew up in was being attacked. Her tutor and protector pushed her through only moments before being overrun. While this story does have romance and some steamy scenes, they are not overly graphic nor do they fill the whole story line. The book is still are best suited for those over the age of 18+. This book is more romance than erotica, and a little more adventure than romance. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series!

I read a lot, meaning probably 250 to 300 ish books per year. I rarely give a 5 star score but was truly tempted in this case. So romantic, different in the paranormal bent and also h o t! Thank-you for a great time.

This book was fresh, and offered something new. It gave a different concept on paranormal books. I liked it a lot, and it kept me enthralled. It was lengthy, but thats greatfor a free book. I do wish there could have been more action. I will read the other books from this author.

This clever story spins around the experiences of Elora, the human whose sudden interdimensional travel results in overcoming physical and emotional trauma to build her new life in a parallel dimension which has some major differences from her previously known world, including a sexy elf and his team of vampire hunters. Fun characters, including a strong female lead, and so many scenes that made me smile or even laugh out loud. Totally fun romp with a fresh take on Vampire lore.

This is the first book in a great new series so it took a little time to introduce everyone and set things in motion. But the writing is tight and the characters are all unique. I fell a little bit in love with each one. But again, beautiful beefy boys with hearts of gold (and who knew elves could be so cheeky).... decisions decisions decisions. Cant wait to read the next installment.

Got this as a free book and could not be more pleased. Definately one of my new favorite authors and I look forward to reading more. An imaginative twist to both science fiction and fantasy combined.

I read the first book of the Black Swan series because it sounded interesting and it was free. I purchased the rest of the 6 books because the writing was so good I didn't have a choice! Join the crowd if you're smart before she becomes as well known as J R Ward and we won't be able to afford her books any more. Meanwhile enjoy the wonderful characters and plots. Even though there are tense situations the humor is so good you'll be laughing out loud and people around will be looking at you with a raised eyebrow.

Rough. It is not unusual in a book to have multiple POVs. But the way that this was handled in My Familiar Stranger was very rough. The author made frequent jumps between characters, rarely with any break to signal the transition and often in the middle of a scene. It made for a confusing read that required backtracking to figure out who had been speaking/reacting in that moment. The main character's reactions were often unrealistic. In the very beginning of the book, she goes through an extremely brutal change in life. However, the character does not seem very affected by these events, beyond a few moments where the author stated that the character had been quiet or pensive without actually showing these moments through the character. The action of the book was very slow to build and concluded with far too little conflict. A character is put in danger only to have that danger resolved by the end of the page. The reader barely has time to worry for the characters before there is a rescue that takes little effort to accomplish. Backstory is thrown in at odd places, providing a brief history that removes the reader from the story in order to explain something that will come next. These moments were jarring and mostly unnecessary. The style of the writing was interesting, but felt more like someone telling a story, with strange side notes that added little to the scene. The reader is told what is happening without ever being allowed to actively connect with a single character. With an inability to connect, the characters became flat. In a story that seem to want to be character based, this can be less than satisfying. It also left the developing love interests between the characters unappealing. HOWEVER! The premise of My Familiar Stranger is very intriguing. Parallel dimensions, with worlds and people that are just slightly different from ourselves. It made for some truly amusing story points. I found enough in the book, despite its rough edges, to want to read the next book. *Originally posted on goodreads

4.99 stars WORTH READING... Total Pages: 773; Story Pages: 724; free e-book What a fabulous story! This one blends sci-fi & paranormal with a little romance in a whole new way. I loved the whole dimensional thing with this one. Will definitely be looking for more by this author.

For a romance style book this one is short on the sex, at least compared to most these days, but you find yourself not minding because you get caught up in the story and want to know the characters. Girl in a guys job, guys wanting girl and vampires killing innocents. I liked it

I was very pleasantly surprised by the plot twists in this full-length novel. I would think this was going one way with a gothic/magic feeling to it, then it morphed into a secret service of warriors in an urban fantasy sort of way. It skirted the edges of being a love story at times and I will HAVE to get the next book to find out how that plot string goes. I liked it so much that I suggested it to a very picky friend of mine and she has reported that she loves it. I recommend this book to readers of paranormal.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and also Moonlight, Book 6 of the series. I was extremely distressed that although additional volumes are mentioned in the books they do not seem to be available for my nook.

OMG Could not put it down. Very interesting characters and a very different story line. The story starts in an Earth type world and moves to another slightly different Earth type world with vampire (the plural of vampire is vampire) and government agents called knights. This is suitable for young adults with some language and mild sex scenes. My only wish is for the rest of the series be made available for Nook.

This is an engrossing, enjoyable read with a little bit of everything; sci-fi, vampires, elves, yes hot men, very strong heroine, love triangles, and a ton of humor. To save her life, Elona was thrown into an alternate dimension. She comes through a beaten mess. Not having any idea of what she is, the secret order wanted her dead, all except one person. As she heals, she learns that in this alternative world there was another like her, but she died as a child. She learns there are vampires and one has a particular interest in her. She also learns she has enhanced abilities. Bonding with the order of the black swan, she sees a place for her, but the Order is not sure they want a girl to join. 18+++ It is more romance than erotica, and a little more adventure than romance.

An author who develops the characters with so much personality, you feel you know them personally...or wish you could. This first book in the Order of the Black Swan series introduces the reader to a whole new world of dimensions that grabs you from the first page. You'll find yourself laughing and crying along with the characters because you feel so connected to them.
