Overview

Beacon Hill Press of Kansas City is pleased to announce the July release of My Father's God, the fourth book in Lynn Austin's award-winning Chronicles of the King Series.

Biblically based on verses from Kings, Chronicles and Isaiah, young King Manasseh has been appointed to the throne after his father's sudden death. Reared with his best friend, Joshua, and instructed in the beliefs of their fathers, the young men's lives are forever changed one fateful night, pitting them against one another and transforming the friends into mortal enemies. As Manasseh slides deeper into the dark world of pagan rituals and ancient evil, Joshua comes close to abandoning his hope and faith in the God of his fathers.

Weaving a complex novel of suspense, action, inspiration, and God's enduring grace, Austin brings a new level to Biblical fiction. She challenges the reader with intelligent writing and by creating real, often fallible characters.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
Manasseh, the young king of Judah, is a spoiled and fairly lazy child who depends on his good friend Joshua to help him with religious lessons and keep him out of trouble. When the boys are 12 and 13, respectively, a fortuneteller informs Manasseh that those he trusted, including Joshua, are actually going to cause his downfall. Manasseh believes her and, at the age of 21, begins to purge his kingdom of all those he feels are against him, thus setting in motion a bloody series of reprisals. While Austin does a fine job in re-creating an ancient time, her true strength is in her believable characters, especially the tragic Dinah. Although Austin (The Lord Is My Salvation, Beacon Hill: Nazarene, 1996) clearly opposes such beliefs as astrology, channeling, crystals, etc., she does not preach. A solid addition to the series.
