Overview

2013 Global Ebook Award Winner - Bronze Medal for Religion/Faith Fiction!

Have you ever awoken to find the life you’ve always wanted, to be a life of always wanting? A life of always chasing? Then one day you stop in your tracks, questioning what it is you are wanting and chasing? And you realize a harsh truth: you’ve been running blind for years.

In two short weeks, that’s what workaholic Cole Jansen discovers. Still single at thirty-two, he’s more focused on managing his clients’ money and his own material success than he is with any woman who gets close, or reconciling his estranged relationship with his parents.

But when his father’s ill health leads him from urban Cedar Rapids, Iowa to the tiny rural community of Harmony, Minnesota for a rare visit, his myopic life is suddenly questioned when he meets Rachel Miller, a young Amish woman committed to her church and family – and conflicted by forbidden dreams of meeting him, the man in the pictures she ritualistically dusts each week as part of her cleaning duties at his parents’ home.

No sooner than such an unlikely courtship begins to flourish, a series of tragedies strike, and commitment and character must be confronted, bringing each of their paths to a crossroads and shaking the foundations of their lives. Will the threat of excommunication and career suicide be too great? Or is there hope for such an improbable love as this?

My Father’s House, a love story about truth, tenderness and tragedy that will tug at your heart-strings.

    A Must-Read

I started and completed the book in one night--couldn't put it down. The story flows very well and keeps you wondering what is forthcoming. Can't believe how so many parts seemed as if pulled from my life story. Really makes you think about who and what are really important in your life. My Father's House is a wonderful, easy read and I highly recommend it.

I just finished reading this book a little while ago. The story was thought provoking especially for me as I recently lost my father and could identify with the feelings and emotions that the central character, Cole, goes through with his father. The romance elements are tastefully done unlike many of the romance novels available today. I would highly recommend this book for anyone that is looking for a quick thought provoking read.

    Great Read for the Summer!
It was heartwarming seeing the changes that transpire in the main character, Cole. The author's use of real events, such as the Flood of 2008 in Cedar Rapids, as well as the struggles he encounters within himself allow the reader to identify quickly with the story. It was an easy read, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes fiction at its best!

    Interesting read. Very Thought Provoking!

Overall this book is a great story with multiple plots that keeps the interest. The use of real places and events along with the fictional parts of the story helped me to quickly identify with the characters. The detail the author included describing the settings and feelings makes the story come alive and grabbed my attention. Bottom line is I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for story on how a great love can change the direction of a person's life.

Loved this book. Couldn't put it down for two days. Cole's internal struggles and his journey discovering what truly made him happy touched my soul. This book makes you think about what you feel is important in you own life. I have already gone back to reread parts of it. I definitely shed some tears while reading it but laughed in some parts as well. A great read. I highly recommend it. Would make for some awesome book club discussions.

    Unusual love story

This story is about a young man who thought he was happy with all he had achieved until he met an Amish girl who showed him what happy really is and what his parents had tried to show him all his life. It leaves you feeling......... Well, you'll have to read it as it has an unusual ending.

    Superb

Bittersweet and touching. I very much enjoyed reading this book, and was looking forward to a "happily ever after" ending, but what is true in real life can be even more poignant and precious. It was not disappointing and I can whole heartedly recommend "My Father's House".
