Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Surprises await at every page-turn in this awesome jumbo book about counting from 1 to 10! A durable, interactive feast, My First Jumbo Book of Numbers includes easy-to-spot large numbers, colorful pictures, flaps, textured surfaces, wheels, pull-tabs, and one large gardening bunny pop-up. On the No. 8 page, eight puffy clouds hover on a flap that, when lifted, reveals eight airplanes. A group of colored pencils sit nearby with touch-and-feel eraser tips, as well as eight turtles on a beach that overlooks blue water filled with an octopus (eight arms, of course!), eight shells, and eight fish that swim around when you turn the wheel. With bright illustrations, each spread is equally chock-full and will keep eyes, hands, and minds occupied with counting. Parents and children will have a jumbo delight with this jumbo book.
Publishers Weekly
My First Jumbo Book of Numbers by James Diaz and Melanie Gerth pulls out all the stops when it comes to teaching numbers one to 10. For the number one ("building"), die-cut windows show the residents; a lift of the flap reveals an elevator that slides up and down; and a tab pulls a car out of a garage.
Children's Literature
The cover says it all. "It's totally interactive!" and "With sturdy lift-up flaps, touch-and-feels, movable parts, and a pop-up, too!" It is certainly a very busy book. Indeed, it just tries to do too much. The first double-page spread covers the first four numbers. Each number is given a half page, and they are separated by a thick black line. Subsequent numbers (5 to 10) are each given a single page. Each numeral has several items that represent it. For example, the number six has six frogs, six bees that slide down to the beehive, six birthday candles and six teddy bears, one of which has a soft furry fabric belly. The train is well done. There are five boxcars on the page for "5" and they are connected to the engine, shown on "6" for a total of six cars on the train. The big surprise is the oversized pop-up bunny on the last page that unfolds beyond the top and bottom of the book. There are five double-page spreads in the book. They are a heavy card stock to accommodate the flaps and movable parts. Learning numbers will take second place to the activities here. 2002, Cartwheel Books/Scholastic,

    I love this book

Yes, there is ALOT in this book and a lot of it is interactive. However, on the same note as long as you sit with your child and maybe take one number a week or so then move on it is perfect. The children can also play with the moving parts when the parent is not there. It is never to early to teach them the planets or other nice things they incorporated.
