The photographs of historic town buildings and abandoned ghost towns are sure to peak readers' interests in town living. The book makes fine comparisons of the differences in town living from cities and suburbs. The specific mention of a town having raccoons that eat garbage is confusing, considering the same can happen in cities and suburbs. Its school bus activity is also puzzling because there are often school buses where there are schools, which makes the distinction between towns and cities with suburbs less clear. This is an educational picture book about town life that has many interesting photographs to illustrate the text. There is a handy "words to know" section that highlights various terms and helps early readers understand the book. Some of the words of interest are repeats from the other books in the "My First Look at Communities" series. The back of the book includes additional resources for supplemental reading and web site references to learn more about towns. Reviewer: Julie Minnich
