Children's LiteratureAGERANGE: Ages 3 to 7.
Bible verses from the Old and New Testaments are broadly translated into language children can read and understand. It is expected that parents will read the book to younger children. The introduction says that after several parental readings children will be able to "fill in the gap" when the parent does not finish the verse. The verses are presented under topics such as "creation," "virtues," "hope," "safety," and "worship." Each section is opened with a note to parents. In the note under "virtues" it says: "When we teach a child the Golden Rule and other key verses found in this section, we share virtues we hope our child will embrace." Matthew 7:12 is quoted as "Treat others as you want them to treat you." Each section is designated by a symbol at the top of the page, such as a heart for "virtues," a sun for "morning," or a church for "worship." The key to the symbols appears on the back cover. Colored computer generated illustrations show happy children, parents, pets, grandparents, and people of various ethnic groups. This book offers parents guidance in teaching Biblical truths to their children. Children will enjoy the padded cover and cheerful pictures. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
