This 24-page colorful and fun book depicts the significance of the family unit to the growing black child. It identifies the importance of community and the various contributions of various village members to the learning experience of the growing child. This book identifies the significance of culture, beliefs, history, and processing emotions. "My First Teachers" explores emotional intelligence and depicts young children of color in positions of power. It is argued that the "Yeah Right" phenomenon occurs due to a lack of cultural representation in positions of power.
