As an answer to the complaints that the characters bickered to much i found that it fit the situation. Cmon her father enslaved the main sexy hero , the emotional loop theyre put through makes sense that theyd be arguing. Over all id say i liked it better than the first, Xia i felt maintained his character but still managed to be enjoyable, in the bad ass dude kinda way.

The overall theme was easy to understand: girl is put in danger, her psychotic father doesn't care if she dies as long as he obtains what he wants, her overprotective foster brother forces a fiend to guard her, they are sexually attracted to each other, eventually emotionally involved, and together they survive through a major tragedy, defeat her father, and live happily ever after. That pretty much seems to be the outline for every novel I read nowadays. It has indeed become old. Despite that, I still enjoyed this novel. However, I often found myself confused. It wasn't because I didn't know what was going on, who somebody was, and didn't read the first in the series. No, the characters' gestures and dialogues confused me. Sometimes, one character would touch another in a certain way, and I didn't understand why. Other times, characters would be conversing and I just didn't understand <i>why</i> they were saying the things they were. I don't know if I was tired or what, but I found myself wondering more often than not why they were doing the things they were. After awhile, I just stopped questioning and read. Xia and Alexandrine's relationship also had me scratching my head. At first, all they did was bicker. And not even intelligent arguing either. There was no trying to prove a point or open the other's eyes. Nope, this was just flat out arguing for the sake of arguing. I was to the point of pulling my hair when all of a sudden, they cared about each other. They weren't emotionally attached yet, just one person caring about the safety of another. I think the turnabout gave me whiplash. Then events actually started happening. By the time I finished the book, I literally had no idea about anything. I think I was just too exhausted to read this novel and actually comprehend it.

I should have learned my lesson from the first book! But no, I wanted to give the author a second chance, hoping the second book would be more clear. It wasn't. Although I found I liked and understood the characters more in My Forbidden Desire, the writing still had my brain twisted. Again I found myself wanting to like the book, the story is definetly interesting and has great potential, but unfortunatly the writing is so confusing that I couldn't figuire out what was happening! (Did she use magic? Or was it someone else? How did she get from point A to point B?) I was lost before I hit chapter 4 and by the time I finished the book (yea, I finished it) my head hurt. I felt like I had just been studying for my high school exams! Will I read the third book? Depends on how much tylenol I can gather! And yea two stars is being generous!

While I was reading this book I felt as if I was Xia the details were so specific that, sometimes, I simply couldn't put the book down. I hope anyone who has read this book enjoyed it as much as I did. Also to the people that are looking for a great and interesting romance novel they should buy "My Forbidden Desire".

Just when you think you know everything there is about demons along comes about out the "softer" side of demonhood. A world where demons are the victims of human nature. Ms. Jewel's has a unique viewpoint on the working of demons, human and magekind. She incorporates much of what is know to what is unknown. She gives this world a uniquiness all its own and brings compassion to the demons and villify the human/magekind.

In her journey of self discovery she finds a talisman (an evil source of magical power) created by the very father she has been seeking. Now an adult, Alexandrine with her growing magical ability due to the dangerous talisman, struggles to find her place in the world and is caught in the middle of a battle for supremacy between mages like her father, and demons like the man who is sent to protect her.
Xia is a demon who vehemently hates mages and witches, for they were the very people who enslaved him for torturous years, but he reluctantly finds himself vowing to protect the very daughter of the man who he has sworn to kill. He struggles with his desire for revenge, yet fears his desire for the woman who may be his one true mate. Both Alexandrine and Xia fight against forming any kind of relationship with each other, but are forced to trust one another with their lives and are unable to deny their combustible chemistry.
My Forbidden Desire is the second book in the series, and picks up where My Wicked Enemy left off. The reader is immediately immersed into the world that Carolyn Jewel has created. Her characters engage in dialogue that is sarcastic, sassy, and spunky verbal sparring. I loved this aspect of the book. And while this is a paranormal romance, the world building does not overtake, or bog down the core of this story, which a romance.
I enjoyed My Forbidden Desire, but wish I would have read My Wicked Enemy prior to reading it. Unfortunately I was not aware that the books build upon each other, and I think understanding the relationships, tensions between characters, and references to past events in My Wicked Enemy would have shed light on parts of My Forbidden Desire that otherwise were somewhat ambiguous and a little bit confusing. So if you want to read My Forbidden Desire, definitely read My Wicked Enemy first.
My only criticism of this book was the under explored relationship between Alexandrine and her brother Harsh. Harsh was presumed dead, and has been mysteriously absent from her life for over ten years. He returned to protect her from her father and the effects of the talisman, and despite his disappearance it is obvious that they love one another. At the beginning of the book Alexandrine resents and questions his interference in her life, yet no explanation is given as to his absence, or was there any resolution given to Alexandrine's feelings of abandonment and confusion. While these loose strings bothered me a little it did not affect my overall impression of the book, it just would have made it that much better. My Forbidden Desire definitely tempted me to read more by Carolyn Jewel.

Alexandrine Marit was adopted as a young child, so she had noone to ask questions about her premonitions, which were always true. As an adult, she found a group of people who had similar magical powers, and they researched to find out more about their world and other magekind like them. What they found led Alexandrine on a journey to find her birth father, where she is given an amulet by a woman who claims that it was her father's. Alexandrine finds that she doesn't want to take the amulet off, that she feels weaker if she even trys, and her magic seems to be stronger with it on. News of her possession of this powerful artifact starts to draw many unsavory creatures to her who absolutely will try to kill her to gain the powerful talisman. The one who is trying to protect her may be the one that she has to watch out for. Xia is tall, dark, incredibly dangerous, and totally her type, aside from the fact that he is a powerful demon that hates witches.
My Forbidden Desire is an exciting book about a witch in a world like the one we live in. She is strong and very likable, and it is interesting to observe how she reacts when she finds out that all of the stories she has read about witches, mages, and demons are true. Xia, the dangerous bad boy on his motorcycle is thrilling, and the desire that draws the two of them together sends sparks flying. If you are intrigued by the paranormal, or looking for some sizzling romance, I highly recommend reading this book!

In fact that is how Harsh "persuaded" Xia to guard his sister from her biological father, who wants the amulet. His predicament makes him even more furious because he is falling in love with his natural enemy. ---------------
MY FORBIDDEN DESIRE has a jewel of a premise that the author backs up with an exhilarating romantic urban fantasy story line starring two natural enemies. Readers will appreciate that the respective species imprints demand a witch and a demon are antagonistic enemies after generations of hostilities. Fans will wonder whether love can conquer hate as Carolyn Jewel provides a wonderful return to her paranormal world (see MY WICKED ENEMY.---------------

As days turn to nights, this seemingly not so ideal body guard and the witch find the fierce animosity between them dissolving and a flaming passion replacing it. It's the passion that can unite them, and they must trust it and each other before the enemy can destroy them both.
This isn't so much a dig on the book as it is a comment about the paranormal romance genre, but why do the majority of these books have desire, temptation, or forbidden in the title? Just a thought.
I found the book to be very captivating and intriguing. It had the perfect blend of dark paranormal with steamy romance that wasn't over-the-top. The setting and world created was a phenomenal backdrop for the plot. The story flowed smoothly and I didn't find any areas where I lost interest. The characters were relatable and the secondary ones moved the story along nicely. More than anything, the book was kind of a big, frustrating tease- in a good way. Just when you think you are getting somewhere, or figuring something out, or discovering yourself all hot and bothered, something comes along to throw a wrench in the mix. This made the book difficult to put down.
My Forbidden Desire, by Carolyn Jewel, is a taunting, tormenting, and sizzling tale- A must read for paranormal romance lovers.

Overview
