Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This heartwarming celebration of teachers and one-room schoolhouses transports readers to the simplicity of yesteryear. For children, the value of this true story lies in the glimpses of Appalachian life, swimming holes, lunch buckets and high buttoned shoes. Things have definitely changed; Arizona is teaching the class while rocking her baby's cradle with her foot. The rustic, pastoral background captures the soft and pleasant world that was home to a warm and dedicated woman.

This Is a Cool Book You Shoulod Read It

This book's title is 'My Great Aunt Arizona' The author is Gloria Houston and the illustrator is Susan Condie Lamb. I like the book because it has great illistrations.I love when she (Susan) uses a lot of color and she takes her time on each character. This story is a little sad because around the ending Aunt Arizona (teacher) dies.

    Great Story!

This book teaches you a lesson that your imagination can take you anywhere. This book keeps the reader interested with the details of the main character and how she becomes a teacher for generations. The illustrations are very real and colorful.

Great Book If You Want To Be A Teacher!

I really enjoyed reading 'My Great-Aunt Arizona' written by Gloria Houston and illustrated by Susan Condie Lamb. I felt that it showed how much teachers can influence their students. My favorite quote, seen throughout the book, was 'But someday you will go.' This showed me that Arizona truly cared about her students and wanted them to succeed. The illustrator did a fantastic job of portraying the late 1800's into the turn of the century through pictures. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to become an inspirational teacher!
