Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Acknowledging that "finding and keeping a partner is the single most important challenge in gay life today," psychiatrist Martin Kantor (Problems and Solutions: A Guide to Psychotherapy for the Beginning Psychotherapist) offers a nine-step program for connecting with a mate. My Guy: A Gay Man's Guide to a Lasting Relationship covers many aspects of romance, from avoiding Mr. Wrong to identifying a potential partner's emotional needs. Even if many of the friendly suggestions (like "be flexible about type" and "don't compare yourself to others") transcend homosexual relationships, this handbook will serve as an optimistic yet realistic assistant for gay men. My Guy by Martin Kantor, M.D.

I highly recommend that all gay men read My Guy -A Gay Man's Guide to a Lasting Rela tionship by Martin Kantor. This book is highly motivating and useful. In its introduction it refers to how many books written on the same subject are often suferficial and lightweight in their ap proach. Although the information presented is geared to a gay audience, the book surely can be helpful to a straight readership as well, since what is being covered is know ledge about human nature and psychology. It should be stressed again that this book is highly motivating. Kantor's premise is that it is better to be in a relationship than to be without one. His words seem to say in summary, 'Get into a relationship! Stop looking for that perfect prince. If a guy is good enough, then go for it.' This book also explains how to become Mr. Right for someone else and how to worm one's way into somebody's heart. It seems kind of revolutionary that the author, in his opinion that a guy just has to be good enough, sug gests not turning down certain types that are often rejected by many. These types include those that are depressed, introverted, flam bouyant, etc. Reading Kantor's book and following his advice will change your life.
