Overview

"I dare you to read a 'Kurland' story and not enjoy it!" (Heartland Critiques)

In this exquisite new ghost story-set in a castle on the English moors-a handsome American falls in love with a beautiful Scottish woman. There's just one problem: she's been dead for centuries...

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Lynn Kurland has created a hauntingly lovely, delightfully spirited ghostly romance. For 500 years, Iolanthe MacLeod has been known as Herself, The MacLeod, leader of the clan of ghosts that haunts a ruined Border castle. In life, Iolanthe had been sold by her father to a foul Englishman who killed her when she would not betray her family's secrets. Before her death, no man had touched her; afterward, none even knew her nameÉand her dreams of love died with her. But now the castle she bought with her death is in the hands of an upstart colonial who intends to restore it, destroying what little peace Iolanthe and her loyal band of ghostly warriors know. The castle's new owner, Thomas McKinnon, loves nothing better than a challenge. The handsome American has already earned two degrees, made more than one fortune, and tested himself against Mt. Everest. He fully believes himself to be capable of renovating the ancient castle that is his latest enthusiasm. Even his recent visions of a ghostly Scotsman in Mickey Mouse ears have done little to shake his confidence. But he's about to meet his match in a lady ghost whose claim to his castle, and to his heart, he finds impossible to ignore....

    a little ridiculous

i enjoyed this book even though kurland should work on her time travel explanations a little. i thought that io's love seemed a bit forced once thomas saved her. pretty good though.

    Love should be like this!

I have read (and own) all of Lynn's novels now and this one is brilliant. They are just feel good stories of how love should be, and the struggles endured. Husbands should read them and maybe learn a few things!

    Don't bother!

This story moves too slow and even though it has a few laughs you shouldn't waist your time.

I love this author's style, finesse, and her talent for including magical/romantic moments. Her books aren't for those who look for hot steaminess or explicitly described intimacies but it is for those who believe in true love, happy endings, and value impressive talent.

    Not Bad

I have read several of Ms Kurland's books and have enjoyed them. This one just seems WAY too far fetched for me. Although I understand the storyline, the fact that Thomas immediately takes to Iolanthe who is a ghost didn't sit right. And to immediately persue her romantically is a bit much, a little more angst or romantic tension would have been better. Otherwise the humor and writing are enjoyable.

    She's done better!!!

The first half of this book is very long and dry. There are no twists or turns. Kurland sticks to one theme only. If you can get through the first 200 pages this book picks up at the end (but is it worth it?).

The best love story of all time!

I thought story of iolanthe and thomas was a wonderful and facinating tale of true love.

Love can stand the test of time.

Just like before, Lynn Kurland's use of ghosts to play matchmaker works very well. The plot was great, the romance sweet, but I felt that there should have been some paranormal intimacies here to connect the two lovers.

    The ghosties and boggles continue

Lynn Kurland's accounts of the McLeod's and De Piaget's is continued in this wonderful piece of work. There is no author to compare when combining time travel and the paranormal. Her books are touching, witty and a joy to read. The only reason I did not give it 5* is the lack of intimate encounters. I prefer a bit of steam in my romances. I respect that some authors do not care to write this into their pieces but that keeps them from being top notch for this reader. That withstanding, this is an incredible masterpiece I highly recommend.
