Overview

From New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones, an Inside Out series e-short told from Mark’s point of view, as he battles his all-consuming desire for Crystal.

I am a Master, all about control, and yet right now, facing great tragedy, I feel as if I have none. I find sanctuary in the one place I've promised I will never be again, but cannot seem to resist. Her arms.

I feel her hunger, taste her passion, as if this is her escape, too, as if she is running from something I do not know, burying it in this kiss. It calls to me, drives me to want more, tells me she does know loneliness. She knows pain and it is that pain that is bringing us here, to this moment. It's why me as Master and her as submissive do not matter. Why I crave every touch, every stroke of her tongue.

I was lucky enough to have been given an ARC to read. This serie

I was lucky enough to have been given an ARC to read. This series is hands down my favorite that I have read.If you have not started it yet, please run, don't walk to get a copy of If I Were You, where it all starts. The most amazing thing about the books in this series is that Lisa writes with so much detail it is so important to read all the books in order to ensure you are not missing anything and trust me you don't want to...

This novella was a great read and a wonderful addition to the series that lets you get inside the mind of Mark Compton and if you have been reading these books, you are dying to really understand him. I had to read this book twice before writing this review. I wanted to go back and look at all the details I missed the first time I read it because I knew I read it too fast. This is what these books do to you, they suck you in and you feel so connected that you have to know what comes next. I was sure I missed some details that would be important to the next book, No In Between coming out in August. This was in fact true, I did get more out of it on the second read.

The relationships and the connection these people have and feel for each other is something else. We have all read about Rebecca and Sara and their similar backgrounds and in this book you get a peek of how Mark has something in his past that made him lose control, like Chris and stumbled into the darkness. He changed his life, moved from NYC to San Francisco and started in the Master/Submissive relationships and never looked back. This book picks right up where The Master Undone left you. Mark is in NYC with his parents as they wait to see what the next steps in his mom's fight against cancer are. Between losing Rebecca, his mother's fight with cancer and all that Ava has done to him, Rebecca and Sara he is feeling out of control for the second time in his life. We do not know all that happen 10 years ago when he lost control the first time, but he starts to open up. As I continue to get to know Mark, I find myself wanting to know more and more. If you have read the other books in this series you get to read about him through everyone else's eyes, but this book gives you an opportunity to get in his head a little more than you did in The Master Undone. He is opening up and giving hints about how he and Chris have so much in common, you get to see who he is, or who he really is trying to be.

This book started to answer the questions we all have on who is the real Mark Compton, we don't know him yet.... You do not get all the answers you are looking for but in this book you get to see first hand that he is really struggling with the world he has created and the fact that he is not in control, as much as he wants everyone to see that he is, people are starting to see through him and it is killing him to show that weakness. He is unable to stop it from happening and is coming to terms that he does in fact need help from people in his life, Crystal, Sara, Chris.

He and Crystal continue to define what their relationship is, they both are struggling to define what that will be. He needs her help with work and looking after his family who love her back in NYC while he deals with Ava and all of the issues she has created for him. Crystal wants to help in any way she can, but on her terms, will she hold firm or give in to Mark? Will Mark allow her to help? Will he hand over some control to her? Can he? At work? In the bedroom? Both? Read this book and get to know Mark Compton a little better. Will you want more after this, yes please!

This is a great add in the series and gets you ready for what is coming in the next installment, No In Between. Can't wait for August already! Thank you Lisa for another great book that leaves you begging for the next book as soon as you have read the last page of this one

Can I just say how thrilled I am that Mark's story is continuing

Can I just say how thrilled I am that Mark's story is continuing? He has been such an enigma. Such an elephant in the room. With this installment of his story, more puzzle pieces fall together, and even more show up. I can't explain why I'm so drawn to Mark. I have to know his story. The sooner, the better.

For being on the shorter end of a novella it felt like a novel to me. There was SO much to take in and enjoy and so many nuances to take note of. This story picks up the day after The Master Undone. The day after Mark had an encounter of the hottest degree. And a few days after Mark's life has changed irrevocably in many different ways.

Mark is slowly coming nose to nose with Chris Merit for my affection. Don't judge me! There's just something that became very apparent to me while I was reading this book. I feel Mark's pain and heartache like it's my own. Ms. Jones wrote him in such a way that he is both a mystery to me, and a character that, what I do know of him, is very relatable and understandable. So do I love this book? Heck yes! Do I urge you to read it? ABSOLUTELY! Just make sure you follow the reading order!! (down below) Fair warning, this may be a novella but it is imperative that you NOT skip it! In the end this whole series will be a very tightly woven web. Mark's story is a very big part of that. Everyone will be back together again in the fourth novel, No In Between (Aug. 19th!) and you'll need to know what Mark has been up to and what he's been through since we last saw him in Revealing Us.

======WARNING! These are afterthoughts that I really wanted to get out and vent about. Be warned: there are mild spoilers for the PREVIOUS books in the following paragraph. If you're all caught up, proceed.======
Time for brutal honesty: I FLOVE Mark and Crystal together. I know others have very different views on this, but just hear me out. If you've read the series you know that Mark is a master. He needs control, like he needs air to breathe. Yet, through a series of very unfortunate and traumatic events that control has been stripped from him. He is no longer the man he was, the man he built himself up to be to fight his demons. Right now, he's vulnerable. In comes Crystal. She's feisty. She's the opposite of any woman that Mark would be attracted to, and has no submissive qualities. Or so we think. Here's where I'm going to go out on a limb and hypothesize a bit. I think Crystal is exactly what Mark needs. I think there is SO much more to her than we see, even by the end of My Hunger. I have this gut feeling that she is going to surprise us all and not be at all what she seems. To me, she has the ability to tear away the last bit of torture that Mark is hanging onto and to help him build a more solid and open life. He will always be Mark, but the structure of his whole world is cracking. When it comes tumbling down, he needs someone with the ability to be versatile. Stubborn, yet submissive. Loving, yet strong. I truly believe that Crystal is that person. I know there is this big debate going on about Rebecca coming back and her being perfect for Mark. Here's my view on that: Rebecca was very scared and very unsure of herself. Yes, she grew into the lifestyle, but her hesitance would have slowly drained and ruined both herself and Mark. There is a difference between being shy and being submissive. You have to be strong to be a submissive. Rebecca just was not cut out for that life. She didn't have that defiance that Mark could play off of. Or that fire that pokes and prods until his true dom comes out. I think she tried to be someone she wasn't with him, and she was a ray of normalcy that he tried to strive for. I had my moments of wanting them to be together so badly. In the end, it never felt right with them. With Crystal I can just feel something coming that is going to be wonderful. I just hope I'm right!

    Happy Reading!

Before you start reading this review - please read the whole
Inside Out Series up until My Hunger!
If you haven't yet - you're missing out on some of the best books EVER ¿
(and of course my review might spoil some things for you!!!)

My Hunger is a !!!!!short Novella!!!!! about Mark - it's starting right after we left him in The Master Undone. He's in New York - at the hospital with his mom. And of course there's Crystal again - his mother's assistant. Remember? Mark and Crystal spent a very sexy night together before she left him in bed with only a little note telling him it didn't mean anything.

And the worst thing? Crystal is SO not the submissive girl that Mark usually goes for - NEEDS to go for.

But he just can't forget her.

Added to all his confusion about Crystal, and the worry about his mom are the things that happened back home in San Francisco: Ava killed Rebecca to have Mark for herself.

Now that Ava retracted her confession, the police need to find someone who they can blame this whole mess on. And it's either Mark oder Chris and Sara who are still in Paris.

Mark is trying his best to get through all of this - to be there for everybody and to prevent even worse things from happening - but he can't be everywhere at once.....

What will happen to Mark & Crystal?
    Will there be a HEA?
Will everybody die at the end? ¿
Or will there be a horrible Cliffhanger?

I'M NOT TELLING YOU THAT OF COURSE... ¿

    l don't want to spoil anything ¿

OK - I might tell you that Mark & Crystal will get their own full length novel with:

    I BELONG TO YOU

so - we'll see them again¿¿¿ and of course we'll probably hear from them again in No In Between and My Control ¿
    _____________________________________

    AMAZING NOVELLA!!!

It was wayyyy too short though :( but I know that I will see Mark & Crystal again ¿ *happydance*

I LOVED this tiny little Novella - I was so sad when I finished The Master Undone - I needed to know if there was a future for Mark & Crystal - and now there might be...I can't wait for the next books in the series!!

This novella - short as it was - had EVERYTHING a great book needs:

    SEXY SCENES
    SUSPENSY SCENES
    MOVING SCENES
    FUNNY SCENES

Other than the shortness of it I have NOTHING to complain about ¿

If you loved every book of the Inside Out series - just like I did - you will LOVE this one too ----->>>

    GO GET IT ¿

Now I can't wait for the next books!!!!!!!

"Tie a rope around me, because I'm hanging by a thread from this cliffhanger!"

WOW...Mark's POV! This series drew me in from the beginning and the pull just keeps getting stronger & stronger! Ms. Jones continues to amaze me with her wit and her ability to weave a story into the readers mind like no other!

The control Mark loves so much to have but without it, he doesn't seem to know how to handle himself. However, Crystal seems to center him in a way that he can't or doesn't know how to accept. And she doesn't even realize that the control, "his control", is now in her hands! Will they be able to control their "out of control" feelings for one another and survive the hell that is upon them!?

Thank you Lisa Renee Jones for this riveting story, I can't wait to find out what you have in store for us in your next book...No In Between!

This is an amazingly hot read! The whole romantic whirlwind will keep you on the edge of your bed wanting to know what happens next! This can be read alone, but it is part of the inside out series and is so much better to read the series from the beginning. This story will have you excited, upset, confused and "begging" for more when you realize that you are to the last page! Getting into Mark's head again was dark, mysterious, and beautiful....
I love his twisted mind, but right now he's a mess. He's fighting inner battles; the feeling of not being able to do something for his mother, the case against Ava, his feelings for the new woman (Crystal) in his life.... and the feelings he has, or rather had, for Rebecca. The blame he puts on himself for her dead is excruciating painful... Is the 'always in control' man fading?
Lisa lifts up a tiny little curtain of things to come..things of his own past and why his hunger for control is in Mark.
I'll be ready for the next story!

A quick read, more Mark and Crystal told from Marks POV.
Mark is dealing with his sick mother and the police investigation.
It's so hard to review this one without giving too much away!!
Chris and Sara are in Paris so we don't see them in this story.
Mark is dealing with some different feelings, things he's certainly not used to. He does a little reminiscing over his relationship with Rebecca and what he did or did not do wrong, while Crystal tries to help him with his business and his family.

    Satisfying, Mark's POV

Mark’s POV is shared as his life begins to implode on itself as his emotional turmoil mounts. There seems to be no safe harbor for his sinking ship, until Crystal, his ailing mother’s right hand woman enters the picture. Strong, dominant and stunning, Crystal has none of the qualities mark looks for in a submissive for his lifestyle. But, there is chemistry, hot, fast and furious, but like a blast of cold water, Crystal is gone. How could just the thought of this woman have him twisted in knots?

Old memories haunt Mark, and everyone needs him for something, everyone but Crystal, is this why he so drawn to her?
My Hunger another “in-between”novella from Lisa Renee Jones carries all the heat, all the passion and all of the conflict of the Inside Out series, just from a different perspective as we are invited into the chaos that is Mark’s mind as he struggles to come to terms with all that is going on around him, all he has lost, his guilt, and a spark of hope that Crystal gives him. Very short, but filled with enough power to satisfy, Lisa Renee Jones keeps us coming back for more of her signature style!

FINALLY, I’ve been waiting and waiting for this moment, when Mark owns up to himself all the screw ups he previously made.  I have to say that Mark was for the most part my least favorite character in this series, but My Hunger helped to redeem him to me a little, I can’t wait to see what No In Between brings us.

Firstly ¿ if you haven¿t read the main novels in the Inside

Firstly – if you haven’t read the main novels in the Inside Out Series, or the first story from Mark’s point of view, Master Undone, you will want to read those first.  You will lose so much of the impact of this novella without that information, and it won’t make a ton of sense for you.  But, now that you have read the others, take a walk inside Mark’s mind as he deals with trauma, upheaval and his own perception of his wants, needs and desires.

The more that I read about Mark, the more that I enjoy and understand him: having the information from this book has allowed me to see his behavior and responses to the events in a whole new light.  And then comes Crystal: exactly who and what he needs, this Master with a tendency to overthink and control every aspect of his life.  Crystal turns all of that upside down, with her refusal to bow instantly to his every command, as she struggles to relate as both more and less than his own rather rigid preferences are telling him.

Still hot and steamy, but with a large dose of emotional turmoil and struggles for dominance and acquiescence between the two, Mark is gaining a better knowledge of himself and his own needs, even if he doesn’t believe it is necessary.  While the main suspense in this novella is what will happen next, and which buttons will be pushed, there are still unanswered questions that will prey on each character and reader as you fly through the pages to see where it ends.

Fortunately, it’s not quite over yet, this journey, and I loved the opportunity to know Mark better, and find the heart that lurks beneath the iron-clad control and reserve.

I purchased an eBook copy of the title for my own library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Lisa Renee Jones never fails to deliver. I love her books they keep your attention, involved in the book like you are living it with them there and now, never boring! I'm going to keep this short and sweet, I just finished My Hunger the story developing Mark and Crystal. Seeing what Mark is going through and how he is handling it achieves the goal of never wanting to put the book down. In the past inside out novels I am always rooting for Sara and Chris. My Hunger changes my perspective and now I find myself rooting for Mark. It is well written and developed that I can't wait for more Mark and Crystal. Love it!

Thanks to the author I was allowed to read a complimentary copy of this novella for an honest review.   I am loving finding out more about Mark Compton! I admit once again that I really did not like him in the series until his first novella came out and we got inside his head. This gave us even more of his thoughts and feelings....feelings he fights so hard not to have. Love this! Really cannot wait to see where the series takes Mark.

Where is his control? This novella occurs right after Revealing

    Where is his control?

This novella occurs right after Revealing Us continuing Mark and Crystal’s story begun in the Master Undone and is in Mark’s POV. Do not read out of series order. The events are occurring during the same time frame as in His Secrets.

Mark struggles to regain his control as he deals with the after effects of Ava’s confession and the deep rooted guilt he feels for what happened. Though he never told Rebecca how he felt there is no denying that he did love her. The control that was his life is being chipped away at by many forces and there’s only once place he finds relief, with a woman who is no submissive. With a woman that he can just be himself with, a man he hasn’t seen in many years and we don’t know if that is good or bad. I love this man’s point of view. We get to see the depth of his dilemma, his control that is who he is, that he sorely needs failed him so tragically and he wonders if he can trust himself to be a master again. This reader is a sucker for character redemption and growth and we see the makings of it in this man that at first we didn’t like. You cannot help but feel for him and you worry about what Crystal is getting herself into. In this novella the mind of the master is continued to be laid bare to us, that which was previously hidden, his emotions are put on display. His thoughts are as captivating as the words Rebecca wrote in her journal. We are definitely left wanting more but in a good way. This novella is a sexy suspenseful enhancement to the series.

I have been waiting for this book for the longest time. You know

I have been waiting for this book for the longest time. You know, just like when you watch a pot of water while waiting for it to come to a boil and it takes forever? This installment focuses on Mark. If there is a more complex and messed up character out there in the literary world I have not found him. This man intrigues and fascinates me... does that mean I am worped?

He is complicated and this control thing he has going I think only hides a chasm in his heart we have not discovered yet. He is too much... too much control, too perfect in his attire, too much when he greets people and is forever stiff and aloof, you get the drift.

In Lisa Renee Jones' superb writing style, we are regaled with the crumbling of Mark's control obsession. He is so driven to seduce Crystal that he actually forgets to remove himself from the emotions by playing Master and planning a scene. He just acts on instinct. Masterfully written, Mark's secrets are just below the surface and no longer deeply hidden. Rebecca's fate has undone him. His conscience no longer allows him to hide from his feelings, and I think in the end, a new Mark will be discovered.

I am begging the author to write more about Mark and Crystal. She is the conduit to Mark's liberation and I think that is a story worth telling.

After stopping myself endlessly on purchasing book one in this series since it first came on the market because I had too many other series to finish first I could not resist reading My Hunger when I was offered an arc of the book. Got to love starting a series halfway through but despite that it was a great read. I didn't feel too out of sync with the story-line despite my lack of knowledge of what the characters had endure beforehand but I knew I had Rebecca's Lost Journals from netgalley so I went from 3.2 back to 1.1-1.4 and then 2.5! This novella (3.2) focuses on Mark's guilt over how things finished with Rebecca and the uncertainty of her whereabouts - is she dead or alive? It was this intrigue that made me stop My Hunger halfway through to read Rebecca's Lost Journals then back to My Hunger and what made me purchase every single available book in the series already published. Rebecca's character and how the author wrote her single handedly dragged me kicking and screaming into another series. As likeable as Crystal was I prefer Rebecca so not overly enthused that Mark maybe diverting his attention to Crystal now. My next read in this series will be from the more traditional point, book one!

    Mark's POV

We finally get a glimpse of the torment Mark is going through while Chris and Sara are in Paris. Dominant Mark, always in control, who never lets anyone see what he doesn’t want them to see, is falling apart. He doesn’t know how to handle all these new feelings - especially what Crystal seems to bring out in him.

Lisa Renee Jones never seems to disappoint! This is a great teaser of what is to come!

I am loving the look at the complexity of Mark!

My Hunger picks up the morning after The Master Undone in the Inside Out series. This is a short novella that packs so much emotion and story that for once I didn't realize it was only a novella. I love that we are seeing a different side of Mark. Sure, he's still a master, and he still has the same essence of himself, but he almost seems more vulnerable and open in My Hunger. I will say that I love Crystal. She's strong, and doesn't take any crap from anyone. She's just what Mark needs, but does Mark realize this yet? This series is absolutely breathtaking and My Hunger is no exception. I am so excited to find out what comes next!
I received a copy from the author through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I read all the other books in this series in a 24-hour time span

I read all the other books in this series in a 24-hour time span a couple months ago and LOVED it! I could hardly wait for Lisa Renee Jones' next release! So when this came out, I read it as soon as I could and found that the story could very well stand alone.

I like that I didn't need to reread all the books before to relate to the characters and immediately enter Lisa's fantastical creations again. Don't underestimate this book's power punch. Yes, it is a novella, but it is packed with action! A quick and gripping read with sizzling intimate moments between the lead characters, I immediately dove into the midst of the action again in the continuing unfolding of a sexy mystery suspense romance story.

Mark Compton, art dealer and owner of an exclusive BDSM club, is faced with a devious heiress and coffee bar owner who is currently being treated in a psych ward. This lady, through the help of her richly funded attorneys, concoct a plan to shift reasonable causes for the murder of a young woman whose body has still not been found. Election year means things heat up and conviction is needed. The possible person being convicted is none other than Mark himself.

With his mother hospitalized in New York with stage 3 breast cancer and undergoing various tests, Mark puts Crystal in the hot seat managing his art foundation there while he flies back to San Francisco to put out the fires popping up there around Mark's art gallery and sex club.

In between (even though Mark would say that there is no in between) all the action, things get steamy between Mark and Crystal, and I find myself wanting to see what happens next in "No In Between." This book is definitely a must-read!
