Ok, I confess an absolute bias in favor of this author, Cherise Sinclair. The reason being, I've been reading her books since day one and every single one is a 5 star experience. This book continues in her BDSM world building with more Doms and Subbies and the need to try and remember they are fictional characters, even though we want to invite them over NOW!
All the previous reviewers have provided details on the characters and the story line so I won't be redundant. I will say that I find the story of Abby and Xavier to be the kind of emotional thrill ride I've come to love from this author. Never a dull or slow moment. The details of the BDSM experience are one of the outstanding elements in all of Cherise Sinclair's BDSM books. Her Doms are definitely "fictional" but they have a basis in "reality" not "fantasy", not life style research minus actual experience. That, plus Cherise's outstanding writing ability and her personality, keep me coming back for more, yelling at her in reviews and on Facebook to "WRITE FASTER DAMNIT!".
Her writing style, wonderful characters, realistic but entertaining content, her incredible sensitivities to the BDSM world, its issues, and those who inhabit it or desire to, along with her totally sick twisted sense of humor, keep me coming back again and again. I appreciate that one of the messages of this book was that BDSM does create family like environments and it is far more a mainstream practice than most people would know or guess.
I love that Cherise always provides real world advice and warnings, that should absolutely be taken seriously. Such as always have a safe word and safe environment and safe partners, and "Don't glare at the dom, moron.".
I think Dark Haven and Shadowlands should have reciprocal visitor agreements and hope the author will agree to this or that she can be forced into this by her street gang, which I understand is unrelenting but well dressed with bags of swag to give away.

Having read the short stories involving My Liege in the past this was a long awaited story. Great read, funny sad and a joyous all at once. If at the end of reading this you feel like a stroll through the woods...enjoy just watch out for those water guns!

Cherise Sinclair's books are an automatic buy for me and this novel is excellent example of why buying anything she writes is a gimme. The book is so well written and the characters are so engaging that it is simply a joy to read.
We've met Xavier in the Doms of Dark Haven anthologies and his club Dark Haven was mentioned in one of the Master of the Mountain books. Xavier owns the BDSM club, Dark Haven, and is a well known and liked Dom. He lost his wife to an aneurism 4 years previously and although he plays with subs a lot, he feels no real need to have a serious relationship.
Abby is a professor at risk of losing her job if she doesn't publish quickly, plus she is curious about the BDSM lifestyle to see if it can help her heal her relationship with her wanna-be Dom boyfriend. Because of this she decides to go undercover in Dark Haven to gather information about BDSM and the people who participate at the club.
The story of Xavier and Abby getting together is absolutely wonderful. Xavier is hot, not just because he is a hunk but because he cares so much about the people in his life and Abby is a "normal" woman. She is a bit over weight and is very self conscious about that. She tends to over analyze things and repress her anger while she tries to make sure everyone else is okay.
Scenes that I loved: the fantasy that Xavier gave her (OMG so hot) and, while it was a bit tough to read, I thought the punishment scenes were perfect (especially considering the harm she unintentionally did to the Doms and subs at Dark Haven). And I really, really, really loved when Janae got her comeuppance! Oh, and of course, everything with the puppies!
As I said this is an excellent book and well worth getting for your library. I wonder if the next Dark Haven book will focus on deVries...hmmmm that would be fun!

Oh my! Talk about a great story! At 1st i was a bit worried about all the book would be about was what went on at the club but the story developed from there. Xavier was everything one might picture after seeing the awesome cover. Makes me drool just looking at him. Somehow rippling back muscles and rock hard shoulders do more for me than just another book showing a guy with a six pack. For me though, i just couldn't picture abbie in my head, but she was sweet anyway. There was only one scene in the book that made me a bit squimish. You'll just have to be the judge. Great book. Worth the money.

Ms Sinclair once again brings you into her world where heroines do not have to be anorexic but are still beautiful (even if they don't know it) and a hero who teaches her that she is. Intense, and HOT.
I have not read a Cherise Sinclair book I didn't like!

I have to agree with earlier reviewers who stated, "write faster!" I absolutely loved this story and also appreciated getting to hear a little more of the stories of other characters Cherise has introduced us to. Xavier and Abby were beautifully written--thank you!

I am a HUGE Cherise fan! I have loved all of her books. I bought this book for my kindle the day it came out. It killed me that I wasn't able to sit and read it for a day or so cause real life was in the way. BUT I finally read it and just fell in love with it, just as I have all her others! My Liege is gorgeous and Master deVries *fans self* Yummy. So thank you again Cherise for a fantastic book!

The best book involving BDSM I have read to date. Better than 50 Shades of Grey (since it seems to be the new standard). It puts this lifestyle in an acceptable manner. The characters are well developed and believable. The Dom is masterful, domineering and commands respect yet is warm, caring and charitable. The story is not predictable, thus supenseful. I couldn't put it down.

I really enjoyed this book about Xavier and Abby. I like how you get to know the characters and the book was well written. There were a couple of twists that I didn't see coming, but I would definitely recommend this book.

Disappointing story after reading the hi ratings. Not a fun read. Felt like textbook almost clinical descriptions of the lifestyle, so I was lost in sections - all that equipment was not hot. No chemistry between the main characters - I never warmed up to either of them. Gorgeous 35+ millionare falls fast for sz 16 frumpy 25yr old? Sorry, have no interest in the rest of the series (the secondary characters felt all the same) or her writing style.

I like Cherise Sinclair's work very much, always interesting stories, sympathetic characters and good plotting. Of course, the sex is a nice bonus, lol. It's not crude and pointless, it's actually an integral part of the story. This book didn't disappoint, although I wasn't quite as emotionally invested as I have been in some of her others (See the Shadowlands series--great!!) the characters in this book are likable, and the drama--there must always be drama--is not endless and boring. It's just enough to move the story through to a satisfying end. If you enjoy erotica, dominant males, strong woemn willing to subnit to the men they connect with you'll like it
