    My Man Michael...so not what I expected

    This book was alright. I think Lori Foster should have kept it real instead of putting a sci-fi twist on the series expecially with this character.

    I was looking forward to "The Mallets" story then to have the sci-fi crap tossed in I was disappointed.

    Hopefully the next story about Dean will be a bit more par to course with the series.

    I feel cheated!!!

    I read the first couple of chapters and then threw my book across the room!! I am so upset. I don't think it's fair of an author to take a series that is loved, and a character that people are really looking forward to reading about, and just change it into something entirely different. If she wants to write time travel books, fine!! But she should have wrote a time travel book that wasn't already part of an established series. I hope that she doesn't do this to any future SBC books, if she does then as much as I enjoy her writing, I will not continue to read her books.

    I want my money back!

    Time Travel. Really? Why not alien space invaders or animals that talk to cheese? Maybe because up until now this series has centered around characters who live in the real world!!! They could have at least mentioned the small fact of this book being a futuristic piece of crap on the description before i went ahead and bought it. Very Dissapointed.

    Ehh...

    I've enjoyed all of the books in the SBC series but didn't think this one was as good. If it had been a book all it's own without being part of the series it would have been alright. I am a fan of the fantasy genre, but I've never been a big fan of time travel books so my judgement might be a bit colored. That being said, I didn't like the incorporation of time travel into this series.
    The characters were okay, but I didn't get into them as much as with the other books that she's written. I'm looking forward to the next book and hoping that it's more in keeping with the rest of the books in the series.

    What happened?

    I love Lori Foster, but this was not one of my favorite books. The whole "I'm from the future" theme was shallow. There was very little explanation or description given about the ship, the planet, anything.
    It seems like maybe the author was on a deadline, and writing fast.
    Not up to her usual standard, but a pretty good book anyway.

    Disappointing!

    I was disappointed with this book. Based on the other books in this series I was so excited that the next book was finally out. What a let down! This is the first of any Lori Foster book that I didn't finish. At about halfway thru the 2nd chapter I didn't want to read it anymore. I flipped to the end and was so glad I didn't finish reading it. What a waste of a book. This author is one of my favorites, but I guess even she has off books. I was just disappointed to see this was one of them.

    SO DISAPOINTING !!!!

    I had been waiting so long to read "Mallet's" story and was so disapointed !! Lori what have you done ?? It was so un-realistic and so far from the other books in the series. I think she could have wrote this book using another character, not one from the SBC . Tho I really tried to enjoy it , I kept thinking on every page , this is so far fetched and tell me he is going to wake up from this dream .
    I love Lori Foster's writting and she got me hooked from Jude's Law and I hope she continues this series.... but back on earth !!!!

    Disappointing!!

    I was truely disappointed by this book. I was so looking forward to a new book in this series, I have throughly enjoyed this series thus far. I found it completely unfair that she went into the future with this book. I didn't even finish the book, just skimmed it hoping and praying that there was more to the book...

    A Major Disappointment

    Not at all expected based on the previous 3 books. This is a science fiction novel, not a contemporary romance. If you like the SBC series, I wouldn't waste your time with this book. It doesn't fit in with the series other than Michael being in previous books. I was really hoping that he was just really drugged up while healing from the accident and he'd wake up from this crazy dream, but by Chapter 4 I was so done. The other characters from the SBC make a brief visit probably to justify the claim that it's Book #4 in the series.

    Ok, I think I've bagged on this story enough. Read at your own risk.

    My Man Michael by Lori Foster

    My grin should be near to blinding about now...I just finished reading "My Man Michael" by Lori Foster and LOVED it! Her fourth book in the SBC Fighters series is packed with humor and heart-warming, heavy breathing romance from page one. Foster has managed to combine science fiction, fantasy, humor, and romance in a story that's almost guaranteed to make you say "Awwww" several times, yet still has a spicy, modern edge and blistering sexual tension.

    Michael or Mallet as he prefers to be called is pretty darned depressed. Not only did he total his lovely little sports car but managed to mangle his leg at the same time. The prognosis for his career as an SBC fighter is bad...as in kaput, over, done, finito. He'll be lucky just to keep his functionless leg and even Mallet knows you can't fight with only one good leg. When he's visited by a cute blonde who keeps disappearing when others are around, Mallet is sure he's just on some really good pain-relievers. Then he notices that his body, well specifically one body part, seems to perk right up when she's around, so he's more than happy to listen to her delusional talks...like she's from the future, can cure his leg, and wants him to join her 'colony' and fight for their defense! He can even have his choice of virgins! Sound like heaven to him...so he decides to go along with her delusion in exchange for a kiss. Next thing Mallet knows he's really in the future, in Kayli's colony, and expected to spread his genes...holy hotcakes Batman!

    So funny. Imagine a blue-collar, roughneck guy turned loose in a colony where women fight while the men tend to hearth and home. Foster plays this storyline with the skill of a star stand-up comic. Is it silly? Oh yes, and in the very best way. Is it hot? Oh yes, and in the very best way. Is it a keeper? Oh hell yes, and in the very best way.

    Lori Foster continues her SBC fighter series with My Man Michael, and as usual she has a winner! Although a tad different from her other SBC books, My Man Michael will take you on a ride that you won¿t want to forget.

    Michael ¿Mallet¿ Manchester, upcoming extreme fighter in the SBC has a shot at the championship, the one thing he has spent years working and training for. But a sudden and tragic car accident takes that away. Injured, in pain and depressed, Michael ¿Mallet¿ Manchester doesn¿t have a clue what he is going to do with his life. Fighting was his life and it will take him a lot of time and effort to even be able to walk so fighting was out of the question. So what is a man to do? What can possibly bring Michael back to the life he loves?

    Suddenly out of nowhere, Kayli Raine appears, tougher than most women and Michael is instantly captivated. Thinking his pain medicine is causing hallucinations, Michael doesn¿t believe her when she offers him a chance to be whole again.     a fascinating futuristic science fiction romance

    Twenty-six years old Michael ¿Mallet¿ Manchester is a month away from his SBC title shot that he and most pundits believe he will win. That was before the car accident left his right leg mangled, his fighting career over, and since he knows nothing else he is moping and bitter. He believes his life is over.

    Kayle Raine enters his hospital room calling him a loser as a warrior never mopes regardless of the conditions of her limbs. She offers him an intriguing deal. Though Mallet believes he must be hallucinating from the pain medicine, he accepts her transaction; she will heal his injuries in exchange he will go back to the future with her people have become weak couch potatoes. She hides her real mission in taking him to 2220, which is his mating with a woman; but the rules forbid Kayle from being that lucky female.

    This is an entertaining major twist to Lori Foster¿s SBC contemporary romances as the story line is a fascinating futuristic science fiction romance. Mallet is fabulous as he goes from total sulking ready to withdraw from life to stunned champion. Though the early twenty-third century does not seem quite real (could it be his drugs?), fans will relish the love between the rescuer and the rescued if they can each overcome their inadequacy fears.

    Best SBC Fighting novel so far!

    I have a couple of Lori Foster's books but this series is fairly new and I love it. I don't know much about sports especially Supreme Battle Challenge (SBC) Fighters, which I didn't a clue about what that sport is about and I still don't know much about them. When I read the first book in this series I at least started to get what SBC Fighters do and in this fourth and upcoming book in the series things take are very 180 turn from what the first 3 books were like. This is an Advance Readers Copy of Lori Foster's upcoming February 2009 release which I have had the honor of reading and reviewing for her. We met Michael "Mallet" Manchester in the second novel Simon Says and he was also a bit in the third novel Hard to Handle, so we know a bit about Michael but in this novel we get to know him a whole lot better.


    In this novel there is a very big twist that will surprise you and take you to a whole different place than the first three novels. It was such a pleasure reading this novel because it was so different and took me to a whole new place that really gave me a thrill with each passing chapter in the novel. Michael is such a strong wonderful charater that like the other previous heros in the SBC Fighters series is a man who respects women of all types and is a fighter to the core without being a egocentric jerk about being a strong and good fighter. He right leg is so severly damaged from a car accident that the doctors tell him he'll need extensive physcial therapy just to walk and so fighting professionally again is out of the question and his career, which has been his life, is over. Then this mysterious woman Kayli Raine appears in his hospital room out of thin air and she's a tougher woman than Michael is use to, but he's immediately captivated by her. What he doesn't expect is for her to offer him a second chance at becoming whole and even though Michael things it's the drugs talking, he accepts her challenge that brings in to the different place that I have mentioned.


    I don't want to spoil this new and wonderful place that Lori Foster has created because it is something I can't really decribe fully without ruining the whole novel for you. I will say that it a place that gives Michael the chance to become a whole man again and also gives him the love that his SBC fighting friends have and which he didn't think he was looking for until he met Kayli. Kayli is a strong fighter herself and that is something that is new for Michael but it's what he has been waiting for his entire life. I'm so glad that I got the chance to read an ARC of this amazing novel, My Man, Michael, and I will be buying the book when it comes out in February 2009 because that is one hot cover that will motivate me to read the novel over and over again in the future. The only thing that got me a bit frustrated is that when I finally got to the last page it got wondering whether we've seen the last of this amazing place that Michael has found or if Lori Foster will take us on another trip sometime soon with her future SBC Fighters series. Now that is something to think and consider about while we waiting for the future novels in the series to be announced.

    Very disappointing!

    I really enjoyed this series she was working with. Loved Havoc, Simon, etc. But what was she thinking? Way to weird. Could have done this another way and so much better. Stay clear of this one.

    Another Winner for Lori Foster

    A very interesting read, especially for those individuals that have read the previous books in the series. If you are expecting a similar boxing story, you will be disappointed. My Man Michael offers a sci fi twist that I found fresh and original for this series. If you like romance and you find futuristic sci fi stories fun, you'll love this one.

    I really like the fighter angle that she is using in this book series. I would hope that there will be a little more going into the future for more fighters, but maybe she can start a series about the others from where this one left off.

    slightly disappointed

    While I enjoy just about all of Lori Foster's book. I was a little disappointed by this one. While all the other books revolving around the mixed martial arts world was AWESOME...I didn't enjoy the "other world" of this one. I understand that all these characters are fictional, I enjoy them hanging around on earth and living a somewhat normal life.

    Out of left field

    I was expecting another story line like her previous SBC fighter novels. Then whoa! It's a paranormal, extra-terrestrial, futuristic tale. Maybe if I knew what I was in for I would have been receptive. As it was, the sudden genre change really threw me for a loop. It may be because this so far out of her norm that it seemed contrived and predictable. Definitely not one of her best or even better novels. Hopefully, things will be back on track with future stories.
