Overview

My New Orleans will change the way you look at New Orleans cooking and the way you see World-famous chef John Besh. It's 16 chapters of culture, history, essay and insight, and pure goodness. Besh tells us the story of his New Orleans by the season and by the dish. Archival, four-color, location photography along with ingredient information make the Big Easy easy to tackle in home kitchens. Cooks will salivate over the 200 recipes that honor and celebrate everything New Orleans.

Bite by bite John Besh brings us New Orleans cooking like we've never tasted before. It's the perfect blend of contemporary French techniques with indigenous Southern Louisiana products and know-how. His amazing new offering is exclusively brought to fans and foodies everywhere by Andrews McMeel.

From Mardi Gras, to the shrimp season, to the urban garden, to gumbo weather, boucherie (the season of the pig), and everything tasty in between, Besh gives a sampling of New Orleans that will have us all craving for more.

The boy from the Bayou isn't just an acclaimed chef with an exceptional pallet. Besh is a chef with a heart. The ex-marine's passion for the Crescent City, its people, and its livelihood are main courses making him a leader of the city's culinary recovery and resilience after the wrath of Hurricane Katrina.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
It took the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina to fully appreciate the uniqueness of New Orleans. Because of that disaster, Restaurant August chef John Besh has deputized himself to pen a full-course cookbook tribute to the Big Easy. His credentials are sterling: Not only is he a world-renowned New Orleans chef; his cooking style reflects a subtle blend of contemporary French and indigenous Louisiana influences. My New Orleans: The Cookbook will wow home cooks with its 200-plus recipes, then educate them with its 16 illustrated chapters on the city's culture, history, and, of course, cuisine. Delicious reflections on a singular metropolis.

    Beautiful New Orleans

The most fantastic thing about the book are the pictures. In addition to a variety of easy to follow recipes are personal stories. I intended to purchased this book as a gift for someone but I ended up keeping it for my own collection.

    I Also Recommend:

    Very good cookbook

John Besh is one of my favorite chefs, so I was very excited to receive this book. I have read the book from cover to cover and enjoy every aspect of the book. His stories at he beginning of each chapter are humorous and enjoyable. The photograghs are very colorful and make the food look extremely appetizing. I was a little disappointed in the recipes as I was expecting more cajun-like cuisine and this was more of an overall seasonal mixed cuisine. The recipes are very good, using a lot of fresh ingredients. Some of the ingredients I never would have thought to combine. I would recommend this cookbook to people who collect cookbooks or would like a cookbook to place on their coffee table or who just like to cook!

    Great Book on Cajun Cuisine

This would make a fabulous coffee table book if the recipes weren't so great. Contains a lot of my favorites from the New Orleans area. Some of the best Gumbo recipes I've ever tried.

Besh is one of the best. I can't go wrong with his recipes even if I try!

Love this book! Great for cooking for just me or for a dinner party. It's obvious he has a love of new Orleans, and he does the cuisine like a favorite son.
