Overview

Anne Wells Branscomb was an internationally known communications and computer lawyer, pioneering in understanding the impact of the digital revolution on people's lives. Raised in the deep-south traditions of the 1930s and 1940s, Anne surprisingly attributed her professional success in the north to her southern roots. Using the social skills of a girl raised in the former Georgia governor's mansion, she rose to be a well-respected member of a male-dominated profession. An honors graduate of George Washington University Law School, Anne also received a master's degree from Harvard University, B.A. degrees from the University of North Carolina and Georgia College, and an honorary LL.D. from Notre Dame. Spending her career in the forefront of computer law, she authored Who Owns Information? (BasicBooks, New York, 1994), and served as a legal consultant and policy expert to clients including the American Bar Association, United States government, the Aspen Institute, the World Bank, and the National Science Foundation. Using humor, satire, and wisdom, in this book Anne shares how she managed to successfully balance the considerable demands of her profession while maintaining her family as her priority.
