Overview

Headlong into sin . . .

A well-practiced rake, weary of easy conquests and empty pleasures, Tarquin Vale, Earl of Ashcroft, knows women—and his every instinct warns him to beware of this one. Diana Carrick's brazen overtures have thrown the haunted, sinfully handsome lord completely off his guard. Why, the exquisite temptress stated outright that she wishes to be his lover. But it is neither Diana's boldness nor her beauty that intrigues him so—it is the innocence he senses behind her worldly mask.

Intent upon the seduction that will finally free her, Diana has set her sights on the notorious Ashcroft—never dreaming that there is much more to the enigmatic rogue than sin and deviltry. His kiss is bewitching, his caress intoxicating—and even the dangerous secret Diana must protect cannot shield her from Ashcroft's dark allure.

Unwittingly yet most willingly, they are playing with fire. Now the fuse has been lit and there is no escape . . . except surrender.

    enjoyable historical romance

In 1827 widow Diana Carrick wants the country house that she has managed for years. However, the house is now owned by a noted rake Earl Tarquin Vale. She decides to seduce him in exchange for his giving his property to her.

Tarquin is bored with London and its simpering women. When Diana offers herself to him, he rejects her as being another no brain all beauty. However, he dreams of making love to her so after meeting again, he decides to seduce this brazen widow who has already enticed his mind. As they share a tryst, he displays radical modern thoughts of gender equality while she fears her secret will destroy their relationship that has turned to love

This enjoyable historical romance is refreshed by the attitude of the widow who decides to use her body to get what she wants, his country house. Vale is somewhat typical of the sub-genre: a weary rake with the exception of his position on gender in parliament. He gets education in seduction but it is her secret that threaten their relationship. Anna Campbell writes a wonderful deep character driven tale.

    Good Read but very Erotic!

This was an enjoyable read but beware the sex scenes are quite graphic! Worth reading though.

    Very dark

I decided to try this author on the recommendtion of a romance site. They said she would have enough sizzle for me and good story lines. They were very correct. However, i was not prepared for the very dark mood of the book. I prefer frequent witty lines and a more tongue in cheek type of seriosness. This book had about one soft/funny moment. The rest was uncomfortable, sad, angst filled and just dark. I dont think i will get another one. The sex scenes are streamy, i just couldnt even really enjoy them because of the dark plot. I didnt understand the female and her reasoning. She was just unlikeable to me. The entire time, i felt horrid for the male character (who i liked most of the time). I would suggest Sabrina Jeffries. She doesnt spend very much time on the sexual stuff, but i always end up chuckling throughout and enjoying the sexual tension. I have read all her books in rapid succession and liked each one more than the last.

    More of the same (LVR)

Ms. Campbell uses her formula once again in this book, repeating her theme of love conquering all. Her prose is better than most other historical romance writers today. I guess that's why I keep reading them. She spends a lot of pages on graphic sex scenes, so beware.

    Highly recommended!

I simply adore Anna Campbell. She writes terrific books, and "My Reckless Surrender" is no exception.

Ms. Campbell writes about broken heroes and the women who heal them. You will laugh and cry and think tender thoughts about her characters.

    Check it out for yourself!

    Difficult to finish

I have enjoyed Campbell's other novels very much but My Reckless Surrender just wasn't the same as the others. It was wordy and didn't have the same excitement. I'll purchase her next book but if that too is a disappointment, I can't see me wasting my money on buying any additional books.
