Meet the Author

Kelia R. Bazile was born February 8, 1967, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and grew up in Vacherie, Louisiana. She graduated from St. James High School in 1985, and studied criminal justice at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
In 1986, she left Louisiana and moved to Dallas, Texas. Kelia advanced her education further by earning two degrees from Dallas Baptist University (DBU), including a Master of Business Administration degree from DBU in 2004.
Kelia’s career path began back in high school when she took a summer job as an hourly team member at Taco Bell in 1984, under the umbrella of the largest quick service restaurant concept in the world, YUM BRANDS, INC. and the leadership of David Novak, President and CEO.

In 2002, Kelia led the region with outstanding performance as a Market Coach and was awarded a trip to Hawaii with other top performers.

In 2003, Kelia was featured in the Dallas Morning News “Success Stories.” Readers learned that her position on the corporate ladder was “three levels from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Taco Bell Corporation.”

On April 4, 2007, Kelia Bazile was promoted to Region Leader. She was accountable for over 500 restaurants, thus making her not only the First African-American Female Region Leader, but also the first African-American to lead a region in Taco Bell’s 45-year history.

During her tenure at Taco Bell, she and her husband, Jerriel Bazile Sr., raised three children, providing them with a healthy home and a college education.

In 2012, ready for a new opportunity, Kelia decided to take on a position as Joint Venture Partner (JVP) at Carrabba’s Italian Grill, under the umbrella of Bloomin’ Brands Inc. in Tampa, Florida.

Today, Kelia is a member of Florida Diversity Council, a member of Rasmussen College Business Advisory Committee and she is a beloved teen mentor who works with community organizations to improve the lives of young people and “create a better place to live”.
