My Son, John

Overview

Murder. Could there be a more chilling word? Could it be any more horrible than to have a loved one killed, brutally and heartlessly, without obvious reason or motive? When Liz Peterson's elderly mother is found viciously beaten to death in her home, Liz and her husband, Charles, along with their grown son, John, and teenage daughter, Sarah, are horrified beyond words. Their previously predictable, respectable lives seem to have vanished ...

Overview

Their previously predictable, respectable lives seem to have vanished without a trace, as they struggle to make sense of a senseless act.

And then a second blow-more devastating, if possible, than the first-rocks them to their core. John is arrested for his grandmother's murder. As what's left of the Peterson family begins to crumble under the weight of loss and accusation, the Petersons' longstanding Christian faith is put to the test in a way they could never have imagined, and unconditional love is stretched to its limits. Can God bring healing to a family torn apart by a brutal crime?

Editorial Reviews

Cypress Times - Gail Welborn
My Son, John reads like a true story torn from today's headlines, but it's fiction. I turned the pages faster and faster and then began to skim, just to find out what happened next, it's that good. It's a story that stirs the soul. Don't start this book without a box of Kleenex nearby. This small book with a big message relates an emotional and chilling story of murderous violence, but it's also a story of what unconditional love means, and the cost of unconditional forgiveness.

Divinely Inspired Design Studio - Mona Bouchard
In My Son, John, reality hits close to home, and no matter what readers are coping with in their own lives, it is difficult not to end up in the shoes of the characters. The emotions are real, although the horror of the situation may not be something experienced to this extent. The moral of this story is that healing is possible no matter what the reader’s circumstance, and the life one lives can either tear others apart or help to heal them.

    Must-Read Page-Turner Novel

Kathi Macias has done it again. She's written a book the reader can't bear to put down until the last page has been read. Macias powerfully depicts the emotional roller coaster ride a mother and her family face when her mother is brutally murdered. Every mother wants the best for her children. How can she survive the devastation she faces when the murderer is her own son? Macias delves into the heart of this mother as she struggles to hang on to her faith and forgive her son. Kathi Macias not only understands the anguish of a mother as she visits her son behind bars, but also the shame and guilt of the son in need of forgiveness.

    I Also Recommend:

    My Son John

This book is well written, easy to read, and plausible. The writer tells a story of a family that must deal with a tragedy in their own famly, and how events and circumstances grow their faith. I would recommend this book to anyone that is struggling with having faith, and being able to forgive. This book is helpful for not only personal growth but also contains discussion questions for group use.

    I Also Recommend:

    Great story packed with emotion

This story was very emotionally moving and hard to put down. I loved the way the author presented the issues the family had to deal with on so many levels. Not for the faint of heart, but very inspirational. I also endorsed the book so my complete thoughts about the story are inside the cover.
