This book is an honor to the family, a "beautiful", "just beautiful" loving story of the Mann Family through their years. Clearly, this talented young lady has much love for her life, education, career, and desire to share all with the world. Her story is thrilling; her captivations are as if you are right there with her. I hope you enjoy her book as much as I did. Her opportunities are endless. I can't wait to read her next book. Hats off to Lori J. Mann in the accomplishment of her first (but not last) book. You will be "smiling" after you read this story~Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I am so excited to get my hands on a copy of this book! I am a theater major at NYU, and have been studying Jack Mann's work for a while now. I have 2 chapters left to go, but so far it is beyond inspiring! To hear a legend's story of success right from the horse's mouth is so motivating...Awesome his granddaughter took the time to write this piece about him and their family. This book would be perfect for a required reading for theater/film majors. A+++++Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

A story full of Broadway history, family, and moments in life that remind you to stop and smell the roses. This book is about a famous Broadway sound designer, a woman's dedication and loyalty to her family, and stories/memories from their special New Hampshire summer cottage, Stagedoor. Reading this book makes me want to put down my ipod, turn off facebook and go experience life in the great outdoors...and possibly build a Stagedoor of my own so my children's children could enjoy it some day. Good, inspirational read. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

To open this book is to be privy to
the glowing sentiment and rite of passage
that is at the heart and stone core of the Mann Family legacy.
To delve further into it's pages is to
bear witness to Ms. Mann's heartfelt account
of her Gram and Gramps, told through her personal
stream of consciousness and commentary on the timeless
cycles of life and death, friendship and love.
Unpretentious in her poetry and prose,
here is Ms. Mann's historical and cultural homage
to those who came before her, and to those who
will follow when she is gone.
Here is Stagedoor.
She has captured it.

I heard about this book through a friend, I was told she was a "a new author that is as raw and honest as a pulsing heart". From such strong words, and being the big reader that I am, I decided to order this through barnes & noble when I was at the mall the other day. It arrived and I got reading to it right away. Lori J. Mann definitely wears her heart on her sleeve. From the beginning, it is evident that her love for her grandparents and Stagedoor (her family's New England cottage), is what brought her to writing this book. You can actually feel all the love and emotion on these pages. She tells us the tale of her Grandfather and his pioneer work in broadway sound design and what an impact both her grandparents have had (and will always have) on her. This struck something in me, because I'm a firm believer that your parents and those around you, play a huge part on what type of person you become later in life. It is evident that the author's grandparents & family have played a huge part in who she is, and she lets you know that through this story. We also see a bit of memoir in this book, we see the author growing up at Stagedoor, as child, teenager, adult -- sharing memories of family, friends, laughter and good times. We also hear about sad times, the death of a family member and friend and the hardships years of life bring. But in all this book is a lovely story of a life, of a family - a family that has a special bond, a special place that units them all. Definitely heart felt, and definitely a must read. Also need to add, at the end of the book there are a couple pages that consist of works of poetry. Lots of talent here. Would love to see more work like this from the author in the future. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
