During the 15 year period since 1995, the author has made 30 trips into trauma areas of the world as a team member of the University of Missouri's International Center for Psychosocial Trauma (ICPT) directed by Dr. Arshad Husain, a child psychiatrist.
Their mission has been to train teachers, mental health workers and physicians to treat children who are victims of trauma and are showing post-traumatic stress reactions.
Based on Dr Anderson's experiences he and members of his team were asked to run a program called "Helping the Helper," which was intended to teach methods of protecting one's own mental health when working with other people's problems.
