Celebrate kids and their special talents.

There's nothing kids like more than putting pencil, crayon, or chalk to paper and drawing their favorite things. But mastering technical skills isn't always easy for them. So visual artist and instructor Jennifer Lipsey has created an appealing new series that gently takes youngsters 4-to-8 beyond what they know--and this first entry introduces them to some very simple drawing basics. On the left page are hand-drawn how-tos, all in bright purple. On the right is the finished piece, with even more entertaining things to do. And the minimal text allows even pre-readers to follow the instructions easily. While children happily create great pictures of ice cream, dinosaurs, and bicycles, they're learning how to turn basic lines into shapes, construct accurately proportioned people and objects, capture silhouettes, and produce realistic three-dimensional effects.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
We love this book because it teaches art basics to juniors in a fun and interactive way. If you know any school-age kids who are starting to get serious about their art, this is a kid-centric, nonjudgmental way to get them to take the next step on their creative journey. Some art books nominally for kids are really not geared for children.

Emphasizing drawing basics through fun exercises, "I Love to Draw" sees through the eyes of children in order to train their artistic eyes; and that approach can be the difference sometimes between art being just serious -- or serious fun.

I bought these originally for my nieces and nephews as they love to draw and are always asking how to draw this or that. But, As I looked through these books, I realized I could use these drawing and painting techniques for greeting cards, stationary headers, and gift tags. I recommend them to children and adults with a creative side:'

Jennifer brought out the kid in me.

The first two books 'I Love to Draw' and 'I Love to Paint' are highly recommended. I have enjoyed these books over and over again with my two boys 'ages 8 and 9'. Great and easy to understand instructions. It has brought out the kid in me! I love learning new techniques and trying new things with various textures and paints. I can't wait to buy the rest of the series.

    Great book for children

Fun and just plain funny. My 3 year son and I were laughing as we drew funny looking cartoons. I loved it and look forward to teaching him how to draw.

    Great for children

Great book for my 3 year old son. He already loves to draw and doodle, so this was a perfect way for him to be even more excited about drawing. I was thrilled with the book and look forward to buying the entire series.

    It really is her favorite!

I find my daughter using this book entirely on her own. When she wants to draw, create a card or work on a project she goes right to it. Along with the other books in this great collection it meets my young artist right where she is.The techniques used are easy and the results are very realistic. Complete instructions in totally fun, kid-friendly language and illustrations has her continually going back , on her own, for more. We both love it!

    Excellent First Drawing Book!

This book teaches fundamental drawing skills in a fun, instructive, and engaging style. It is the book I would have loved to have as a child learning to draw.

    A 'Must Have' book

The artist/author did an amazing job making this book instructional and fun. My children love the book and have gained confidence in their own artistic skills by using this excellent guide.

    My son loves it

My son is two and half years old. He just loves this book. He asked us to draw the picutures for him again and again. I would recommend this book to kids around 3.

    creative kids!

My 7 year old son loves to draw! We have a few "how to draw..." books. This is our favorite! Examples and instructions are easy for his age. I even love to draw with this book! Great for extra special touches on birthday cards, etc.

    I Love This Book

I bought this book for my grand-daughter who is five years old. I thought it would be a great way to build her self esteem. However, I have drawn over 10 pages of art in two days. It was so easy and fun. I did not know I had it in me. We are both learning how to expand our horizons. Now, I am thinking of buying the book, "I Love to Paint." What a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. My family will be getting art for Christmas this year.

    My Grandkids love this book

Grandchilren, ages 6-11, spend part of their weekend visits reading or drawing. 'I love to draw' is one of their favorite books. Easily to understand and follow directions, they have mastered almost all of the fun drawings. The I love to draw series is geared toward both boys and girls alike. Reasonably priced and filled with hours of education and fun, I recommend the entire series.
