Overview

"A chalice of wisdom for our time."—Ernest L. Rossi, Ph.D., C.J. Jung Institute of Los Angeles

Milton H. Erickson has been called the most influential hypnotherapist of our time. Part of his therapy was his use of teaching tales, which through shock, surprise, or confusion—with genius use of questions, puns, and playful humor—helped people to see their situations in a new way. In this book Sidney Rosen has collected over one hundred of the tales. Presented verbatim and accompanied by Dr. Rosen's commentary, they are grouped under such headings as Motivating Tales, Reframing, and Capturing the Innocent Eye.

Milton H. Erikson has been called the most influential hypnotherapist of our time. Closely related to his therapy was his use of "teaching tales." Calling upon shock, surprise, confusion--with generous use of questions, puns, and playful humor--he seeded suggestions indirectly and positively with these tales, here gathered together by Dr. Rosen.

Editorial Reviews

Los Angeles Times
“[A] most readable volume, rich in personal memories and comments by Dr. Rosen.... The stories give indirect suggestions, show how to overcome habitual limitation, re-frame experiences from negative to positive and discover values. The result is a remarkable combination of entertaining reading offering personal psychological insight.”
American Journal of Psychoanalysis
“There is much in this book for any clinician of any persuasion to learn from or adopt in his own work.... Rosen's book helps us share in Erickson's magnificent vision.”
Jay Haley
“An excellent collection of Erickson's teaching tales.... The stories are entertaining to read, but—more than that—every reader is likely to find them educational in a quite personal and unexpected way.”

    You MUST read this book

It is an outstanding book. At first, when I read this book, I was trying to understand more about hypnosis. After reading this book, not only that I understood more about hypnosis, but I also realized that each case described in the book can help me to think differently. By thinking differently, I can get my problems solved faster, recover from wounds (mental and spiritual) faster, and achieve more in life. I can probably use these skills to encourage my friends and to help them to achieve more in life as well.
