Farzin himself is of Iranian/Persian heritage, and the type of modal scales associated with Middle Eastern ...

Farzin himself is of Iranian/Persian heritage, and the type of modal scales associated with Middle Eastern music as well as the post-bop innovations of Coltrane, Miles Davis and Yusef Lateef obviously come naturally to him. Those who consider themselves jazz purists an odd term, given that jazz was never "pure" and always drew on a wide variety of sources may shy away from My World because it contains pop elements and uses electric instruments, but the bottom line is that Farzin is a creative, probing improviser who plays with a lot of soul.
