Jan Kalousek was born in 1959 in Communist Czechoslovakia. He tried to escape the regime at the age of nineteen, but was detained on Bulgarian border and sent back to his country. After 2 months in detention and 3 years of probation he managed to climb over the Alps to Italy. He lives in New York as U.S. citizen. His poetry draws from the heritage of Russian Romantic poets and is a product 30 years of inspiration.
