Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Bigfoot is a creature that has been talked about for more than 50 years and not just in North America. Native Americans have legends about Bigfoot going back for centuries. This creature is said to live in remote areas and some have even claimed to have been captured by Bigfoot. Many of the stories have been proven to be hoaxes; others are unexplained. The same is true of the creatures called Yeti who live in the Himalaya Mountains—this creature is also known as the Abominable Snowman. Even Edmund Hillary, the famed climber of Mount Everest, reported seeing Yeti footprints. The Chinese tell similar stories about a creature they call Wildman. Some have posited that these creatures may be descendants of giant apes or earlier humanoids who had been thought to be extinct. There is a discussion of Neanderthals and other early humans with a picture showing the difference in the shape of the skull. No one knows for sure, so speculation continues. There are definitions of various words along the bottom of each page and they are reprised in the glossary. The last page contains an index and a list of further readings. Part of the "Unsolved!" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
