Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
When I was growing up, I heard the scary stories of the Bermuda Triangle and used to worry about getting caught in it. After all there have been ships and planes that disappeared in that area. The author recaps some of the most famous stories, such as the group of five Navy bombers that disappeared (Flight 19). To this day there is no explanation of how these planes could vanish without a trace. Stories go back as far as Columbus and a French ship in 1840 found floating in the Sargasso Sea with no one aboard and nothing in disarray. In 1918 the Navy ship Cyclops disappeared. The other really strange stories deal with fog, which seems to suddenly envelop airplanes and render their instruments useless. The details of Bruce Gernon and Martin Caidin's experiences will give readers pause to wonder. The most recent incident reported in the book took place in 2008. Unlike Walker in her book with a similar title of Mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle, Belanger does not offer much in the way of plausible explanations, but he does offer a couple of theories. The text is captivating and kids who enjoy a taste of sci-fi or mystery will find this book to their liking. A Level 3 book in the "All Aboard Reading" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

Any child who loves mystery and the legends of the Bermuda Triangle will love this book. My 3 year old and 7 year old both were thrilled to receive this book and continue to be intrigued by the stories as told by the author. The illustrations were detailed and the girls said they felt like they were part of the stories.
