Overview

Mystery. Paradox. Irony. These are the real words of parenting children from birth to adult. Christian parenting is not as straightforward as we had hoped. Mysteries of the Strawberry combines the eternal principles of the Bible with the ancient Laws of the Harvest to reveal surprising mysteries of parenting. The author is a parent of 4 and uncle to 30, but he is also an educator who has been trained by 100s of students every day for nearly 30 years. This intense and personal observation of child development through the eyes of a passionate Bible believer with an understanding of farming has been God's gift to him to help his own family and yours to know how to train children biblically. Each chapter of Mysteries of the Strawberry begins with the musings of the Old Farmer who matter-of-factly goes about growing strawberries with 100% reliance on the ancient Laws of the Harvest. Then the chapter transitions to the real-life struggles of modern day parents who by God's grace come to rely on the eternal principles of God's Word (informed by the facts of farming). The author's constant use of Scripture highlights what God is saying to parents. In this book, parents find that we need to prepare the child for the path, not the path for the child; that we have 100% duty to train, but 0% control of the outcome; that we can find our deepest joy in even our worst day of parenting; that we grow our strongest children out of the home by letting go as early as we can in the home... and much, much more. The book is filled with real-life examples of modern-day heroes. It is organized in 27 devotion-length chapters with study questions that are perfect for small group Bible studies or personal devotions for parents, guardians, grandparents, pastors, teachers, social workers, and coaches who want to be confidently at rest in training up the next generation for God's kingdom. Surprising mysteries. Heart-warming stories. Tasty morsels for careful chewing.

Meet the Author

Nate Davis grew up in Alaska in a large Christian family who took their faith and fishing and flying in Alaska seriously. Nate graduated from Cook Inlet Academy, married his high school sweetheart, Sherri Jensen, and went to LeTourneau College thinking God might call him to be an engineer to build bridges and homes. However, God called him to education to build strong children for God's kingdom. He earned Bachelor's degrees from the University of Alaska Anchorage and his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Seattle Pacific University. Nate and Sherri have four grown children who by God's grace alone are walking well with their Lord. Nate's education path has been a great adventure with amazing Alaskan friends in Soldotna, Naknek, Seward, Anchorage, and Port Alsworth. By God's grace alone and using many of the secrets shared in this book, Nate's athletes and teams have been blessed to have won more than 20 state championships. More importantly, through sports he was able to plant many seeds in his athletes that are still yielding fruit. Nate and Sherri now reside in Port Alsworth, Alaska where they are happy to serve at Tanalian School and Tanalian Bible Camp. He has been a longtime friend of the Association of Christian Schools International and is grateful and honored to be a Van Lunen Fellow.
