Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
I love science fiction, so as a young reader, I loved stories about UFO sightings and would hope that maybe someday I would be lucky enough to meet an alien. Alas, it was not to happen—at least not yet. The people in this book claim to have seen UFOs and aliens. Among the most famous stories is the one about the alien landing in Roswell, New Mexico. By 1953 the U.S. Air Force had thousands of reports of UFO sightings (Project Blue Book) and in many cases simple explanations could be ascribed to the event. In 1969 the project was closed. These sightings go back in history with one sighting recorded in 1561 in Nuremberg, Germany. People reported seeing what appeared to be a fierce battle in the sky. There are discussions of meetings with supposed aliens (men in black), which have been quite scary, not amusing as in the movie of the same name. A lot of these UFO sightings may have been due to the testing of classified military equipment. However, there are still many who are unconvinced and believe that our world has been and is still visited by alien beings. There are definitions of various words along the bottom of each page and they are reprised in the glossary. The last page contains an index and a list of further readings. Part of the "Unsolved!" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
