Concerned relatives ask for help to find their missing family members who are with Indians. Deputy Pete finds himself on a search mission into the cold untamed frontier with Tom, a man who barely escaped the noose. The more they venture into the unknown, the more danger follows. Deputy Pete discovers there is a 'Mystery In The Bear Claw Mountains,' and stays to solve it. This is his first time being in charge of a mission, one that should have been easy. Unfortunately, the Deputy soon realizes he has to make some quick decisions and improvisations in order to save his life and others. These are decisions he never had to make before and it changes his outlook on life.

Mystery In The Bear Claw Mountains by Michael Leonard Jewell grabbed my attention from the very moment I began reading. I found myself among Indians and outlaws, and actually felt as if I was an onlooker watching the sequence of events. I learned how hard life was for pioneers and what they ate while surviving out on the frontier. There was never a dull moment. Michael Leonard Jewell knows how to engage his readers with his excellent story telling skills. He wrote a very realistic plot with strong characters and settings. I like westerns, and believe this story would make a terrific movie. The historical facts woven into the story played an important role and made it enjoyable with a natural balance.
