Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - BriAnne Baxley MLIS
Based off the well known "Boxcar Children" series of books, readers are now introduced to the mystery series in graphic novel form. The Alden family is no stranger to everyday mysteries. No matter where they might go it always seems that there is a mystery in need of solving. While visiting the beach Benny stumbles upon a gold necklace and the search for the owner begins. Leading through clues and unknown twists readers will wonder if the siblings can finish the task. Readers will enjoy the mystery along with the brightly colored graphics. Though written for younger readers, this novel tries to transition the plot almost in a chapter like approach. This method allows the story at times become choppy making it harder to take in the full extent of the adventure that is being unfolded. These novels are able to be read independently and are perfect in getting young readers introduced to manga, as well as mysteries. Reviewer: BriAnne Baxley, MLIS
