Mystery on the Mississippi

( 2 )

Overview

It's anchors away for Trixie as she travels down the Mississippi River. No, it’s not on the old-fashioned paddle-wheel steamship she always dreamed of, but the trip is still more exciting than she ever imagined. Someone is shadowing her every move, trying to steal to the mysterious graph papers Trixie found in a trash can in her hotel room in Memphis. Why are the papers so important? Could there be more to the childish drawings than meets the eye?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Anita Barnes Lowen
Trixie Belden and friends are off to Saint Louis. There they will have a chance to travel on the Mississippi River and see some of the local sights. But the moment they arrive, Trixie finds a mysterious paper discarded or forgotten in their motel room, and things take a dark and sinister turn. Someone is watching their every move and seems willing to do anything to get the paper back. What makes this paper with its childish drawings so valuable? Could it be "pretty important to the United States?" For a supposedly clever girl detective, Trixie's frequent lack of common sense is exasperating. She readily goes with Mrs. Aguilera, although she strongly suspects the woman earlier tried to drown her; she assumes she is honor bound not tell the police about suspicious activities on Jefferson Island because she has promised a kid not to reveal his secret pirate lair; she leaves her room at dawn to swim alone in the motel pool with almost disastrous consequences. Although Trixie is fourteen, many of today's teenagers are most likely too sophisticated to enjoy this dated story of a group of friends who seem to find trouble wherever they go. Trixie Belden #15.
