Overview

A Mystery Ride may sound cool. But the three siblings in this story know it means their parents are taking them someplace they would never want to go. Like the Laundromat, the dry cleaners, or the department store.

But just when the boys think they’re on the worst Mystery Ride ever, they discover it’s not the destinations that are important—it’s the adventure they have along the way. (And it certainly helps when the journey ends with sprinkles on top . . . )

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kathie M. Josephs
Most of the time when the parents take their children on a ride, they go to interesting places like a toy store or a zoo. But when these parents tell their three children they are going on a mystery ride, the kids moan and groan because they know it is going to be really boring. You would think that everyone would like a mystery ride—but the children have learned over the years that it really means errand day. How much more boring could that be? The mystery places are the supermarket, hardware store, landfill, and clothes shopping. Ugh! Then the children are told they are going on a fun mystery ride but again are disappointed as they end up at the laundromat. What more could happen? I will not give the ending away, but it did bring contentment and "warm fuzzies" to me. This is an amusing book, and one that will become a favorite of children. The book teaches the lesson that it is not always what is at the end that is important but the adventures shared by all in getting there that count. I am sure this book will bring back memories for the person reading it to a child. It is easy to read and is perfect for a beginning reader. The illustrations add a lot and capture the text perfectly. This book will be enjoyed by both boys and girls. Reviewer: Kathie M. Josephs
