Martha opened the envelope with trembling hands. Inside it contained a single sheet of paper folded twice. She took a deep breath and unfolded it, her heart skipping as she read the word ‘Victim' in bold letters at the top of the page. Until then, she hadn't really believed that they'd go through with it, or at least that she'd get lucky, but there it was in black and white. She sat down and began to read the rest of the letter.

It had been Martha herself who'd suggested the idea at the last Murder Ltd meeting. Murder Ltd was a club; a group of six similarly minded couples that'd met through an Internet role-playing game. They'd decided that it would be much more fun to act out mysteries in real life. They met at least twice a year; either at small hotels or function rooms depending on whether the mystery was due to last an entire weekend or just a few hours. One couple would set up the murder mystery and the rest would act it out, trying to work out which one of them had performed the deed.

After their last, highly successful meeting, which Jill and her husband Roger had arranged, she had suggested that they try something different.

"What do you mean?" Suzanne had asked.

"Let's not do a murder," explained Martha. "Why don't we try a Rape Weekend?"

"What?" exclaimed Michael, "You've got to be kidding me!"

"Not a real rape, silly," laughed Martha. "We'll have a victim and a perpetrator. At some point in the first evening the rapist will have to corner his victim and tell her it has happened."

"But she'd know who'd done it," protested John. "All she'd have to do is point the finger and it would all be over."

"Not necessarily," Kevin interrupted. "It could take place in a darkened room, like the murders, or he could wear a mask. If we all wore dinner suits, there'd be no way to tell us apart."

"That could work," mused Suzanne. "We could set up a bunch of motives, like one guy who'd been spurned by the victim, another who she'd been flirting with all evening and so on. It'd be just like a Murder Weekend, only this way the victim could speak."

"Yeah," agreed Michael, warming to the idea. "We could set it in the past, or on a boat, so there'd be no DNA testing available."

"I think the rapist should leave some mark on the victim," suggested Vanessa. "Maybe he could rip her dress a little, something like that. It shouldn't be anything too serious, but enough to make it a bit more real. You know how we always go to town on the murder victims!"
