Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Amy S. Hansen
Margles turns around the often-recited slogan of the Mythbusters, moving it from "Don't try this at home!" to "Try this at home!" She chooses carefully from the Mythbusters' projects, and sets up manageable experiments. For example, will Diet Coke and Mentos (candy mints) make a geyser? And is it the only soda that will create such a shower? The pictures show the Mythbuster team doing the same experiment, as they did on their show. In the "What Happened?" section of each experiment there is a photo of one of the Mythbusters team—giving us the impression that the two or three paragraph explanation was written by the TV star. The projects are fun, and invite the reader to join with the Mythbusters team. Unfortunately they are not all suitable for a science fair board because, like the television show, Margles skips the concept of doing multiple trials of an experiment. It is a pity that this concept was left out but as a regular experiment book, this book will attract Mythbuster fans. Backmatter is an index. Reviewer: Amy S. Hansen
