Editorial Reviews

Booknews
The 75 contemporary works of art (including carvings and sculptures, jewelry, masks, dance regalia, and ceremonial robes) depicted in this book display deep roots in ceremonial and aesthetic traditions. Wyatt, curator at the Spirit Wrestler Gallery in Vancouver, B.C., provides an introduction that outlines the place of art in the ceremonial and spiritual lives of the native societies of the Northwest coast, but turns the majority of the book over to lush color photographs and statements by the artists, as well as the legends and stories of the mythic beings from the mortal and spirit worlds which these works represent. Fantastic Book: Both for Spiritual Research and Artistic Appreciation and Reference!

I feel in love with this book as soon I opened it the first time I saw it. I am an artist who particularly has an interest in cultural and spiritual objects such as masks. I was doing research in the library and online looking for images of especially masks influenced by NW coastal cultures. I was having a difficult time until I ran across this book in a spiritual supply store of all places. within the book are some amazing collections of various works of art, that immediately gave me some great inspiration for some tattoo style design work I was hoping to develop. It's also great to see attached to the various works of art, the corresponding legends and myths associated with the different characters and creatures of the culture. This is just a beautiful book all around, and would highly recommend it to anyone.
