Overview

Naked Calories reveals the naked truth about what you are eating and how your lifestyle habits may unknowingly be sabotaging your health. The secret lies in micronutrients, vitamins and minerals that are being stripped from your diet and depleted by your lifestyle. On the Caltons' six-year global research expedition they discovered that modern practices such as global food distribution, factory farming, and food processing are creating foods filled with Naked Calories--calories void of any real nutritional value. The dynamic authors break it down to a simple three-step plan and teach you how to source better foods, eliminate unhealthy habits, and make choosing the best supplement as easy as ABC. Naked Calories, this decade's Fast Food Nation, will help millions of people gain a new depth of understanding about how to maintain health in the 21st century. The Caltons are among the world's leading experts on the topics of weight management, lifestyle medicine and micronutrient deficiency. In 2005, they set sail on a 100-country, 7-continent, 6- year global expedition, exploring the dietary and lifestyle habits of people around the world. Their research has led them to conclude that micronutrient deficiency is the most widespread and dangerous health condition of the 21st century. As a couple they bring amazing energy, personal experience, passion and knowledge to an important subject people are just beginning to buzz about--the overwhelming health benefits of a micronutrient sufficient lifestyle.

Title: Naked Calories: How Micronutrients Can Maximize Weight Loss, Prevent Disease, and Enhance Your Life

Authors: Mira Calton, Cn, Jason Calton, PHD

    Publishers: Changing Lives Press 2012

You won’t believe what you are reading!

Mira and Jason Calton seem to have unearthed what appears to be all of the most important research, studies, tests and trials ever done by scientists, doctors and other medically oriented professionals from all over the globe including works done by an incredible array of government agencies, non or not for profit organizations and individuals from across the globe.

The authors that they quote have wonderful credentials in a huge cross section of medically interesting specialties relating to the books topic. These authors, many from way far back in time others from our current time, have done impeccable, undisputable work of the highest order in their areas of impact.

Mira and Jason Calton have done very significant research and tests of their own.

The combination of all of this important, substantiated work presents a message to us that we cannot ignore.

Do something now to preserve good health, ward off diseases maintain healthy weight and enjoy life.

I love this book, Naked Calories. No one can get it all on the first reading. I am now on my third time through. I read a little in the morning and a little at night.

I am using the Colton’s product, “Nutrience”. From the onset I have enjoyed a greater level of energy than I have known for well over a year perhaps even more.

A MUST READ if you're serious about your health and nutrition!

I thought I had read so many books on diets, health, and how to gain control for a better life, that I knew it all ~ until I read this one. Unlike the others that provide some info ...this one makes TOTAL sense from A-Z. A must read to regain control over whats REALLY good for you vs what "appears" to be good for you. This book breaks it down in easy to understand language that's actually fun to read and helps you relate the info to everyday ideas. Get it, you won't regret it!

Naked Calories is an Outstanding Read!

I Love This Book. There, I've said it. Yep, I am totally and completely biased when it comes to Naked Calories. This book is all about how the simple foundational elements of fresh foods can bring us back to health without drugs, doctors, or contrived diets.

This book (and the authors' relationship) began when Mira was looking for ways to correct her debilitating early onset osteoporosis. She was a beautiful young woman who looked perfectly healthy on the outside, but was struggling on the inside - like so many of us. Once Mira's condition was reversed the Caltons set out to prove that what they had accomplished with Mira could be extended to other conditions as well. They believe that it is possible to slow down, stop, or even reverse advanced stages of disease without medications.

They spent six years touring the world, researching the effects of modernization on the lifestyle and nutrition habits of various societies. They were looking for a correlation between modernization and disease. They visited the peoples of Tibet, Peru, Papua New Guinea, China the outback of Australia and the hidden regions of the Amazon focusing on primitive cultures to evaluate their nutrition. They visited more than 100 countries on all seven continents in their research.

What they discovered was that in these communities everything revolves around the tribe or clan. Their individual survival is dependent on the overall health and productivity of the group and everyone works for the betterment of the whole. They eat as their ancestors did for thousands of years, hunting, fishing, foraging, growing and trading what they need. And of course their diets consisted of seasonally fresh ingredients that were never processed. In these primitive areas they never once encountered obesity, unfit bodies, or even much tooth decay. And fascinating to me was the fact that those tribes that primarily consumed protein and fat through hunting or fishing (animal products) were leaner and taller than those who received their protein primarily through plant-based diets.

Naked calories are what most people fill their diet with - everything that fills us up without any nutritional value. These are foods and beverages that have been stripped of their essential vitamins and minerals. Whenever you choose prepackages processed foods and take-out over homemade foods, you run the risk of eating filling but nutritionally void meals. Micronutrients are vitamins, minerals, EFAs and accessory nutrients. Macronutrients are carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.

The book takes us through the process of understanding first what nutrition is utilizing a series of simplified scientific explanations that anyone can understand - even me! - and then through the steps to living a healthier, more nutrient-rich life. It ends with a chapter dedicated to their "Hypothesis of Health" which touts the advantages of living as a nutrivore (avoiding nutrient-poor foods) and the ways to accomplish this lifestyle.

This book is incredibly comprehensive and contains so much information that it is impossible to highlight it all in one review. Suffice it to say I strongly recommend that you order Naked Calories immediately and start to read through it. You may discover that medications your doctor has prescribed might be doing additional harm and before you reach for over-the-counter meds, you may want to stock up on nutritional supplements to counteract the possible depletions.

Great book for a nutritionally better you.

Meticulously researched and ¿digestibly¿ presented, "Naked Calories" is the perfect book for those looking not for the latest fad diet or get-skinny-quick solution, but rather for a long-term plan for improved health and better living. When the science is combined with easily understood graphics, you will discover several ¿Aha¿ moments to remind you why diet matters and the importance of good nutritional supplements in today's dietary environment. The shopping and dietary suggestions bring us back to the quality foods our parents and grandparents feed us before fast food and frozen dinners became the staples of American life. You will regain your appreciation for good food and your body will thank you for it. The arguments for supplements are compelling given the deficiencies in modern food sources. Using the roadmap presented in "Naked Calories" is a tremendously useful guide choosing supplements that work.

For Your Health's Sake, Read This Book!

This book is impressive on many levels. Although the authors are experts in their field, they are able to give those of us who are not an extensive, comprehensive course in nutrition. I have always been a health nut, but I read facts in this book that were new to me¿such as discovering that the things I thought would make me healthier were actually depleting vital micronutrients, and why weight loss programs are not working.
Naked Calories is not based on personal opinion or conjecture. It is extremely well documented and the research studies are fascinating. The authors spent six years traveling the world, gleaning information about health and nutrition in places most of us have never heard of. Unfortunately, our Western influence has not been a positive one. Jayson and Mira Calton practice what they preach. Mira was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis at the age of 30. Not wanting to be on medication for the rest of her life that could create problematic side effects, she sought a nutritionist who was able to turn this diagnosis around. This book is also a love story, because the nutritionist and his client fell in love and married. They now share a passion for helping people live healthier lives¿and that message came through loud and clear as I read this page turner¿which is not a word I generally use for a book of this nature.
If I had to describe in one sentence what impressed me most about this book, it would be that it has given me hope for a healthy life.

Excellent Book! Full of great info. A must-read.

When Naked Calories came across my desk, I knew it was right up my alley. I love the simplicity of fresh, healthy foods and being conscious of what we put in our bodies, leading to optimal health. But let’s back up. The premise of this book is discovering how micronutrients can maximize weight loss and prevent disease.

So, what is a micronutrient you ask? Basically put, micronutrients are the vitamins and minerals that we need to keep us healthy.

Authors, Jayson and Mira Calton wrote Naked Calories. Jayson Calton, PhD had treated Mira for advanced osteoporosis at the age of 30. The two have been together ever since. In this book, they explain that “naked calories” are modern foods stripped of nutrients.

So many of the poor lifestyle choices we choose created an epidemic of micronutrient deficiency. Look at the increase in disease and obesity and it makes this evident. In this book, you will discover how to really maintain optimal health once and for all.

The Caltons embarked on a six year journey of extensive research, touring the world to study the effects of modernization on various cultures. What they found was shocking (you’ll have to read the book!) In my opinion, this book would be useful to anyone looking at the nutrient content of their diet, who wants to make better food choices, and wants to get rid of unhealthy eating habits in their lives. It is well written and easy information to absorb.

In each chapter, there are “Naked Facts” such as: Stress, smoking, pollution, hurried lifestyle, excerise, weight loss and lifestyle diets are all possible Everyday Micronutrient Depleters (EMDs). Page 149.

This book will give you the tools you need to become healthy and micronutrient sufficient. You have the power to be healthy. The end of the book offers the Calton’s Optimal Supplementation suggestions – the best vitamins to take that meet the book’s requirements. Their website is below, you can have a look for yourself.

Ask yourself: Are you ready for optimal health? Or are you just making more excuses?

    Good book. I'd recommend it.

    Excellent Information for any Parent

I thought I knew a lot about nutrition before reading this book, but there is so much I did not realize about our food sources and how to make better choices for my family. I wish I had read this earlier when my sons were younger, however I plan to make significant changes to our shopping and eating habits after reading this book. The book is very easy to read and extremely interesting. I liked that the project was based on a personal issue for the authors and they were willing to share their experiences with us. Although I can and will use this information to make my own personal changes, the issues presented in this book scare me for the future of our collective global health.

Highly Recommended- you must check it out!!

To the future fans of Naked Calories, above a 5 star rating!
This is a must purchase and must read book. In between the hard binds of this book, you will unvail an amazing and inspiring read. This book will unravel the mysteries and power of natures work with our body and mind through a mix of wonders found in the vitamins and micronutrients in the foods that we consume. The Caltons have traveled several countries and all 7 continents to research the native foods. They have found that each culture provides a different quality of food. Comparing thier research, we as americans, without realizing it, have a horrible eating style. Through processed foods, factory farmed produce and our not so clear vision of "healty" eating, we are stripping our bodies of these powerful vitamins and micronutrients that have been proven to help sustain a much healthier lifestyle, to be able to cure our bodies of the ailments that make us tired, ill and chronic. Please read this book. You will not be disappoined, offended or mis-led. Not only will you learn what to eat or how to eat your food, you will learn that with just a small change in the way you eat or prepare your food or even what to look for when you are purchasing your food, you will see for your self, that you can eventually be off of the medications that are damaging your liver and body and cure yourself with simple everyday food.
